It's the second day of our project phase and we attacked the iron gate this morning with renewed enthusiasm. The majority of the team hacked away at the crumbling paint mercilessly with lethal scrapers, reminding many of the shower scene from "Psycho". The remainder of the team completed the painting in the main room leaving it looking as impressive as the result of a changing rooms episode.
Although as Mick says, we've come halfway round the world to scrape off old paint, we've found it a thoroughly enjoyable experiece, especially as we had several of the children joining in and helping us. Their willingness increased our own enthusiasm and in our high spirits we found ourselves serenading the whole of Vietnam with various Disney songs. However we can't understand why no-one seemed to appreciate our vocal talent!
While the scraping team continued in the rain, a few of us painted then repainted the banister as numerous members of the team and almost all of our small Vietnamese helpers left handprints over it, forgetting that the paint was wet. It was following this that a paint covered Becky and Ali learnt the hard way that what Charlotte believed was "white spirit" in fact wasn't! Thankfully no real harm was done and they survived to paint another day!
Although soaked to the bone we returned to our hotel with a sense of satisfaction and full of optimism about the remainder of the project.
This evening Mick gave us the option of splitting into smaller groups for scran and despite their reluctance the teachers left with him. However as the group get along so well we unanimously decided to eat together which proved to be a good decision.
And as we sink our teeth into the final stages of the project we're trying to make the most of the remaining tine with the children and in Ho Chi Minh.
Hope everyone is well at home,
Lots of love Ali, Liv and the rest of Team 1 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
