Bến Thành market
The symbol of Hồ Chí Minh city I have been traveling all over Vietnam and also went cruising rivers in different cities and towns at night. I must admit that Sài Gòn seems to be the best place for a great city view. As the airport is close to the city, you can get a great city view when your air plane is going to land. There are many high buildings in the city and you also can get another view from a boat when cruising Sài Gòn river,
The photos in my blog were taken in different places of the city, such as Bến Thành market (symbol of the city), Bùi Viện street (western backpackers area), Sài Gòn river cruise, and the City Garden in Bình Thạnh district where my sister lives. I spend this time discovering the city by bus and got many great photos with my camera. Seeing all these beautiful images, I was remembering my travel time last autumn in the North West mountain region. I lived without electricity for 3 days in Lai Châu province. It was a real contrast of Vietnam between the largest and most developed city of Vietnam which is Sài Gòn with all the colorful boards and decoration
lights, and the remote area of Vietnam where blackout sometimes happens. Most of the night it is dark, as the local people go to bed early and they also use little light to save money.
The western backpackers area in District 1 is the most exciting at night. You can see so many tourists sitting along the roads or in the bars. Possibly speaking, it's sleepless night there. I asked a boy selling Phở noodle soup in Binh Thanh district. He said the road in front of his restaurant is only quiet from 1am to 3am. The people in Sài Gòn often stay up late, and even at mid night, there are still many people riding motorbikes on the streets.
In March 2013 a friend and I had dinner cruise on Sài Gòn river. The cruise started at 8:30pm and finished one hour later. Even though the food is a little more expensive, and you also have to pay US$1.5 for a seat on the boat, it is still worth your money as the view along the river was so great. The boat pass by colorful advertisement boards, other boats and cargo ships, and you can get a

Performance on Sài Gòn river cruise
The girl was dancing with the fire and she was going to swallow it through her mouth. cùng với chiếc máy ảnh của mình và đã chụp được nhiều ảnh đẹp.
Beautiful reflection of the buildings
This was the view from my boat when cruising Sài Gòn river. The buildings changed colors. The building with white top on the left side is the highest in the city.

Old soldier's thoughts on Vietnam
I'm an old soldier who served two one-year tours in Vietnam, the first with a rifle company in the 1st Infantry Division in '65-66 and the second with the 5th Special Forces group in '67-68. Vietnam is one of the most beautiful countries in the world, with some of the most beautiful women to be found anywhere. One of the great tragedies of American history is that we managed to spend nearly seven years fighting the Vietnamese people. Communism would have died a natural and well-deserved death in due course, as it has everywhere but in that one remaining horrible outpost North Korea. Of course, we didn't know that in 1965 when we began to really escalate the conflict. I'd like to go back before kick off; unfortunately, it's getting hard for me to around these days, due mainly to getting up rather badly shot up during my last tour in SVN. I couldn't be happier to Vietnam at peace and doing well today.
