Sài Gòn city at night

Old soldier's thoughts on Vietnam
I'm an old soldier who served two one-year tours in Vietnam, the first with a rifle company in the 1st Infantry Division in '65-66 and the second with the 5th Special Forces group in '67-68. Vietnam is one of the most beautiful countries in the world, with some of the most beautiful women to be found anywhere. One of the great tragedies of American history is that we managed to spend nearly seven years fighting the Vietnamese people. Communism would have died a natural and well-deserved death in due course, as it has everywhere but in that one remaining horrible outpost North Korea. Of course, we didn't know that in 1965 when we began to really escalate the conflict. I'd like to go back before kick off; unfortunately, it's getting hard for me to around these days, due mainly to getting up rather badly shot up during my last tour in SVN. I couldn't be happier to Vietnam at peace and doing well today.
