Greetings from Saigon, Vietnam (or Ho Chi Min city, if you wan't the proper name) WARNING This blog is really, really long, sorry! Where to begin?! How about the 5 days we spent in Phuket sunning ourselves? I know we are supposed to be backpacking on this trip, communal showers, dreadlocks, dirty hostels, that sort of thing. But the Karona Beach Resort & Spa was fantastic! Four star, walk in shower, marble free standing basins, waterfalls in the two-tier swimming pool......It was a glorious way to wind down after a few frantic cities. I say wind down, we didn't cool down of course as the humidity is on the silly scale here, but we got the above hotel for 22quid per night, well under our budget. Got a lot of catching up to do. Well here it goes! We started our trip in Northern Vietnam in the city of Hanoi. Hanoi is a strange city...The way of life didnt quite make sense, and with a city that is extremely fast paced you can only imagine how hectic it gets. In the core of downtown Hanoi, the busiest intersection, had NO method of controlling traffic. Picture this: About 75-100 scooters trying to go through the same intersection; some turning, others going straight..buses driving full speed, while the people on the scooters swerve to avoid getting hit...pedestrians crossing not even looking at the traffic. It has been sooooo long since my last blog - I was actually rather grumpy for a minute when the computer just switched itself off in Can Tho after I had typed furiously for a good thirty minutes... all gone. That was the second night in a row of my typing being wiped, though the second time around, I decided to pay and leave the computer behind me. I wondered whether I was perhaps not supposed to write anymore, as my fate seemed to continuously (and literally) wipe my thoughts... Nah, I am not going to give up on it that easily. I am finding all of the typing very stimulating, and the thought of a career in Foreign Journalism is quite attractive. Hmmm. Vietnam...
