These things were used in case the soldiers going to patrol in the sea in the last centuries may not survive and go back home. This shot was taken at the museum on Lý Sơn island (Đôi chiếu, dây mây, nẹp tre để kẹp xác, thẻ ghi tên và bài vị lập trước khi đi biển phòng trường hợp binh phu không sống sót trở về đảo)

On the fields of Lý Sơn island, the locals use white sand above soil to make it cooler, as it's very hot in the sun (Cát trắng dùng để phủ lên trên đất làm cho đất mát hơn trên các cánh đồng của đảo Lý Sơn)

I am facinated by the fishing boats used in this region which is round & like the round plastic colender used in the kitchen for draining away water after washing the vegetable :). Great region with unusual rock formation.

Thuyen thung (Thung-shaped boat)
These fishing boats are called " Thuyen thung" in Vietnamese (thung-shaped boat). Regretably I have not been on this kind of boat to operate it, however , it is said that with the specially-round shape, the boat is very stable on water surface during high & rough sea.
