Day 9
Had a good nights sleep. Woke up to rain. It's still very warm. We packed our bags as they're moving us to a new room. We had a hearty breakfast. The rain is still coming. We're unsure of what to do in the rain so took some time and looked online. We were a bit late for trips today so we decided to do our own. Hire bicycles and cycle across to Cam Nam island to see the more rural side of Vietnam. We bought long rain macs. We do have them but the ones you buy here go to your ankles and cover more.
We cycled in the light rain through the old town it was very refreshing in the heat. We found the large market. We pushed the bikes through as it was too busy to ride. Lots of locals buying and selling fish and vegetables. Across the bridge on the island we stopped for local Vietnamese tea and get our bearings.
The island is so small we decided to just cycle around and through it. The rain had stopped and the road was already drying. The houses were a mixture of newly built and
grand and old with corrugated roofs. There were chickens and dogs roaming the streets and children shouting hello to us. We could hear music and singing. We turned the corner and there was a wedding party. They were laughing and singing karaoke. There were also many pagodas and temples along the way. Even on this little island there are large red banners with communist slogans and national flags. They were everywhere we have been.
Cycling back we stopped at a road side massage shop. A girl called flower talked to us about what was on offer. We decided on a whole body aroma therapy massage. Lesley had a strong massage I chickened out and went for medium. It was my first massage. I wondered what she was doing when she got on top of me and crawled on all 4s up my legs and back! The massage was an hour and was a great experience. I didn't like it when she popped my fingers and toes! An hour massage cost just £5.80 and it was worth every penny.
Suitably refreshed we then went for more tea to talk and laugh about our experience. I ventured into the toilets
only to find a stand up loo and no light. I'm getting pretty good at it!
We cycled back to the market. I bought more things for my new home. I don't know how I'm going to get everything back to the UK I've bought so much. We continued to rise through Hoi An then suddenly made an emergency stop. We'd passed a cake shop! We turned around and devoured tiramisu and green tea tiramisu. We'd deserved it with all the cycling.
Back to the hotel to freshen up and change then out for our final evening in Hoi An. We Walked near the Japanese bridge again. After such a lovely meal last night we decided to go back. We had a set menu with many little dishes again. It was delicious. We've really recharged our batteries. Ready for travelling again. Night train to Nha Trang tomorrow. Soon be time for our motor bike adventure. Can't wait!

Return of the Mac!
I would say those rain macs suited you both but… The massage sounded thorough, hope you can walk today!
