Day 8
It was lovely not to be woken by an alarm. A leisurely breakfast of bread omelette and water melon. We decided to hire bicycles today and go to the beach. We asked reception to book our overnight bus tomorrow to Nha Trang. They are fully booked .... and so are the trains! Our next option was to see if we can book for the day after and stay in Hoi An another night. Yep, that all worked out and is booked. It meant we had to send emails to the other hotel in Nha Trang. We also emailed Easy Rider motorbikes to make sure what time they were picking us up. Confirmed and all is well.
We got the bicycles and ride 4km to the beach. I was a bit wobbly and had never ridden on the other side of the road. I made Lesley go first! There was a nice cool breeze and not too much traffic.
An Bang beach is beautiful. Views of islands and mountains and not too busy. We sunbathed and went in the sea to cool down. We both fell asleep in the sun. Not good. I'm now sporting a burnt back
and a bright red nose! Lesley is just a lovely golden brown (which she keeps pointing out!) we enjoyed lunch at the beach, noodles and spring rolls then decided to head back to town. When we got to where we'd locked the bikes Lesley couldn't find the key. We started to panic then I remembered I had it! I had to wrap my scarf around my shoulders so I didn't burn on the bike ride back.
Back at the hotel leisurely showers and donned my new dress then off in to old town for more shopping and to pick up Lesley's hand made shows and flip flops. It was buzzing with tourist and across the bridge they were selling paper lotus flower holders with candles which people then launched into the river. It looked so pretty. We stopped for cocktails and watched the people go by we talked to a couple from Sunderland now living in Australia. Off now to collect shoes. The man who made then came out as Lesley tried them on. She's very happy with them. As we walked the streets shopping we got talking to a French family who was having temporary tattoos. There was
so many designs to chose .... so I got one on my arm. Will last 2 weeks. I like it!
8pm, time to eat. We've been trying to stick to traditional food. We found a place where we could sit outside. But we couldn't understand the menu so we just asked for a number 3 and 5! It was a bit like Vietnamese tapas. We got 4 little dishes of food. A lady came over and showed us how to eat it. All the dishes were very tasty.
Disaster struck as Lesley ran out of data on her phone. We topped up on the way home so all is good. Home for 10pm which is late for us. I've enjoyed a slower paced day today.
