Hello hello!
Im sorry for the lack of updates recently, but a lot has been going on since my last entry, and I dont have as much time to use the computer anymore.
No More Danish House About three weeks ago now the other Danish girls went on a trip to the south of Vietnam. Because I did not want to stay in the house alone, I moved into the other SJ house for the weekend. After talking to all the people living in this house we decided that I would move in permanently, as I get along better with the other international volunteers - I will not go into the details on the internet... But I am really happy about this decision and am having a great time in my new house, although we are 12 people sharing one bathroom and we have no matresses for our beds, i still love it! Even though I am now staying in the house with the SJ office and we have free access to the internet, we are a lot of people and only 4 computers, so I rarely have time to sit down and use it, and not for
The Germans
Katharina and Christian a very long time..
Halong Bay The weekend after I moved in, a group of us went on a three day trip to Halong Bay. It was an amazing experience to sail on a boat through the little islands and to visit some of the many caves. We spent the first night on the boat (excellent conditions compared to our house), and after watching the sunset we jumped from the top deck of the boat into the water. Although slightly scary it was a lot of fun. We were 16 people in total staying on the boat, so we also got a chance to talk to some of the other people who were all very nice. The next day we went to a bigger island (Catba Island) were we went hiking ("a walk in the national park" apparently means "to climb a mountain") which was hard but beautiful. And there was a Danish couple in our group..In the evening a guy working in our hotel offered to take us to a bar downtown, so he called all his friends and got us all on their motorbikes to drive us there. But they were crazy! I dont know what
they were on, but I thought I was gonna die! Good thing I didnt. After a rough night singing karaoke, we slept in our nice beds in the hotel 😊
Burns and Broken Bones Usually I do not consider myself a particularly clumsy person - ok maybe I am but Im usually lucky and dont get hurt - but for the last month I have been having more accidents than I have had my whole life (exaggeration of course). First I fainted at work (hadnt had lunch and was really hot, my own fault I know), then I burnt my leg on the exhaust pipe of a motorbike parked in the street and now have a huge scar on my leg, then I was in a motorbike accident on the back of Philip's motorbike, although we didnt get hurt the woman on the other motorbike was on the ground and unable to move her leg 😞 - very shocking experience, and lastly I broke my toe by walking into a bed (completely self-inflicted) and am now limping severely! Silly me.. BUT im still having an awesome time!
Visit From Home Last week my parents came to
Hanoi - woohoo! Despite the usual arguments and brother-sister fights, it was great to see them and show them my life here. The whole family went on a trip to central Vietnam - Hue and Hoi An - which was a lot of fun, and very different from noisy Hanoi. In Hoi An we had clothes and shoes made and ate a lot of good food. We also made a new friend, Vu, our tourguide from Hue who liked us so much that he met up with us in Hoi An for dinner. Although it was raining the whole week we really enojoyed ourselves. And the hotels we stayed in!! WOW! Its weird to be back here with no matress..
The Hospital This week I have not been at the hospital very much because I was helping out at a different project, in which we helped to paint the rooms in a school for blind children, which was a lot of fun! However, we have tried to get more organized at the hospital by figuring out the names and ages of all the kids and asking whether or not they want English lessons. But this hasnt really gotten
us anywhere.. We still just kinda supervise the kids as they play. The other day we had 20 Vietnamese volunteers who were all 15 or 16 years old and did not speak English. Our contact person, Lien, was not there, so it was Katharina and I who had to organize the activities and tell them what to do, which was difficult as they complained alot. This weekend I am going to the country side where a lot of houses have been destroyed by a storm a couple of weeks ago, to help rebuild peoples' homes and give them food and blankets. It sounds very interesting and im really excited.
I promise I wont let as much time pass next time!
