This is just a very brief message to let everyone know that we got here safe and sound.

We flew from london at 11am on Wednesday after getting up extra early to make sure that we were one of the first to check-in.

Was quite amusing seeing people going on holiday for 2 weeks being told that they needed to lighten their bags or pay the excess, rumours were that the excess was 30 pound per kilo over the 20kg limit.

Both of us gloating that we only had 13kg each! However being that we bearly have any clothes i'm now not so sure that was the best thing to be proud of! (We have also considerably added to the weight with books at the airport!)

The 12.40 hr flight to Singapore passed smoothly with no major issues. I managed to fit in 4 and a half films. Yes, many are aware that i had aimed for at least five, but i was distracted by firstly Amy, who said that we needed to talk at some point in the flight, and the huge choice caught me off guard resulting in some indecision for a short period of time.

It is now all very real. After landing in Hanoi we were promptly picked up by our prearranged taxi who then took us to a hotel that had not previously been booked! Turns out that some inconsiderate travellers that had eaten from a street stall were not well enough to leave the hotel today. We should go to our intended hotel tomorrow.

The traffic is absolutely manic with so many motorbikes - We have been perfecting the art of crossing the road this afternoon (generally by following behind old men with long wispy beards!).

We have just had our first roadside 'eats' - some 'pho' with the locals, and very nice it was too. We shall see if we are saying the same in the morning!

We are now off to bed now (Rob's first sleep since Tues night) - hoping that the bibbing horns don't keep us awake for too long - I have never heard anything like it!

Love to you all

Rob and Amy

Language!
Great to hear that you've arrived safely. Doesn't sound like a place for a Harley ride out - just stick behind the old men. Love the first impression comments. I know that you'll really enjoy looking back on them. Keep to the Asia eating rules - piping hot and everything wiped clean with Coka Cola! Sleep well - I don't think that the 'honking' will bother you! XX
