Potter in the garden and clear the last of the banana trees.
We have been invited to a party tonight to wish good luck to Jai's son's brother in law who is off to join the army. Basically the tying of string around the wrist known here as su-kwan. The following is a little bit more expressive and was stolen from the internet (so it must be true !) :-

"The Baci ceremony, also knows as “Su-kwan” is an indigenous Southeast Asian ritual. Predominant in Thailand and Laos this ancient and traditional ceremony is held for various occassions. “Su-kwan” can be interpreted to mean “calling of the soul”. It's main purpose is the binding of one's personal spirits to the person, and also serves as a means of expressing goodwill and good luck to others. The Kwan are believed to be a persons 32 spirits that watch over their body and constiute a persons spiritual essence."

I didnt fancy sukking anyone tonight and as I have always found their house somewhat dirty didnt fancy eating there either so give the whole thing a miss. Jai goes with her sister and sister in law for family representation but are back quite early.
