Nice day for a ride
Just taking my Elephant for a walk Hi Everyone,
So I've made it through my first five days in Thailand and it's been fantastic.
I arrived in Bangkok on wednesday afternoon and although I had to wait over 2 hours in passport control they let me in... phew!
Made my way straight down to the animal sanctuary, which was made easier as the centre sent a car to meet me at a near by town called Hua Hin!
Everyone at the centre is friendly (including the stray dogs) and easy to get on with except for the actual Dutch guy 'Edwin' who runs the place... he seems to have a marble or two missing!
Anyway I'm loving it even though the days are very long (6.30a.m to 5p.m) and packed with hard physical work!
My jobs are varied between feeding, watering and cleaning animals although the highlight so far has been the chance to take the elephants into the local river for a swim and wash! The local tribe are called 'Mahoots' and they own four elephants which the local village people use to help with things such as removing fallen trees to helping them tow old broken down cars but we

Just taking the local vehical for a wash! help look after them and are slowly convincing the locals to set them free back into the wild!
As for the food it varies between some local Thai dishes and pasta with salad, which apparently is a treat but I still can't see that! Had some pad thai yesterday but still not sure if it's as good as the one in the racing page! ;-)
Anyway, I need to go now as we have to share an internet connection at a local village that only has 2 computers, which has to support all 18 Volunteers!
Hope everyone is well and enjoying the start of the winter... ;-)
