Arrival in Hua Hin
Here safe and sound, beer to celebrate!! Cheers Last day in Bangkok - Hua Hin
Thank you all for the messages and comments on my blog, please keep it coming, its great to hear from you all!!
Sunday 16th July
Last night I had a face massage in the Shell garage, for approx 3GBP, 200Bht. It was a fab massage, but I had troubles relaxing, as there was no place safe to leave my bag. Ended up strapping it to my leg, much to the amusement of the Masseurs. Its really strange a Shell garage by day selling fuel, and a massage parlour/ cafe by night.
Booked on a trip for last day to the Floating Market, River Kwai, tiger temple, Met 3 girls from Ireland on hols and Dermot, a fellow traveller (also from Cork), the day turned out to be a drag and megga rip off, pay pay pay (I know Jen, you did warn me!!). At the beginning of the day, Dermot and I were told by the driver that we would be going on a bus with otheres from a hotel who had paid 1500 Bht for the day and asked us not to let on that we had paid so much
Floating Market
non existant by the time we got there, but boat trip was pleasant enough.. less. Feel ready to get out of here now. Dermot also starting his year's trip, he is 31 and managed to get a working visa for Oz (have to be 30 or under, so he applied last year), he plans to stay longer there. We exchanged ideas and plans. He is going the same way round as me, so maybe we'll meet up again for a beer sometime. Best of Luck Dermot........
Monday 17th
After another noisy night in the hotel, I was happy to check out this morning. Thankyou so much Noi, for showing me where the bus station is and how it all works. 3 times I was offered a cab for 100bht and more, but I knew it was close and insisted on a meter. Worked out at 60bht (would have been 50, except he told me he had to drive round the back ??) He wanted me to book him to drive to Hua Hin, 2400Bht, haha, I also knew it was only 160Bht on the bus. Once on the bus, I had a massive sense of acheivement, that I didn't take the easy option. (have to be a budget conscious backpacker, unless I decide
Snake farm
Mildly amusing, watching the audience if nothing else. :-) otherwise :-)
I guess if I was just on holiday, the same as anyone, all these little bits would not notice, after all it is still cheaper than home, but when you are here for a while it does get irritating that they are always touting for more, makes you more determined not to be caught out.
An amusing thing about public transport here, tuk tuk and it seems the public bus, once you are all on the bus, or tuk tuk, they stop on the way to fuel up or pump up their tyres etc. Ah, everyone on the bus given an ice cold bottle of water, and there is air con, very comfy bus.
The weirdest thing about being on the bus when you don't know where you are going, is how do you know when you are there ?? (are we nearly there yet??).
Ah, all good the bus driver shouts out, Hua Hin!!.
Retrieved my backpack from the under storage, and after asking a few people and getting a map from tourist info, even managed to find the Hotel Noi recommends, at 480bht per night. Bargain, nice room with window to see out
Traffic Police
For Steve, in case you fancy a transfer of, and lots of light, not like the dingy rooms in Bangkok. Fan, TV, good bathroom with shower that doesn't wet toilet seat and toilet roll. An absolute palace, + swimming pool, I'M SO EXCITED!!.
Walked to the nearby beach, passed some fab looking seafood restaraunts, (to try later), Seems to be a fishing area, lots of fishing boats out, Huge hotels on the sea front, Hilton looks very impressive. But I am happy with my Hotel, Thanks again Noi, wish you'd given me your correct phone number (seems to be a digit missing).
One thing to mention about the traffic here to, at the traffic lights there is a countdown, so when it goes to green, so many cars are allowed through, and the number counts down, you will see the traffic police watching to make sure all is well. Looks like a pretty scary crossroads to me..................
The Gen from the Book: The first royal palace at Hua Hin was built in the early 1920s. Ever since Rama V11 chose the site for another summer palace at the end of that decade, Hua Hin has been a premier domestic beach resort and possibly the oldest in
Hua Hin Railway station
Famous station from 1920s Thailand. The king named his palace Klai Kangwon 'Far from worries' .
Tues 18th July
Day after feeling, woke up today feeling a bit blue, maybe overtired, wondering what am I doing (first time I've felt this so far, so not bad). Missing John, and newsy gossip from home. It isn't helping that although warm, (well Humid), it has rained since I got here and thunder storm today. Off for a massage and hope the feeling will go....
