night shopping Khao San Road
Its buzzing here, great people watching, shopping, eating, and beeeer Back in Bangkok 13th 14th & 15th July
I had forgot to mention, whilst in Laos, about the night in Hot spot, dancing and singing until 1am, when had to be up at 5am for long bus journey. On the bus journey of 6 hours or so, no toilet on Bus, so it stops on the mountain and everyone gets out and disappear in the bushes. (me included!!). The Fab foot & leg massage I had in VangVieng for 1 hour. The Toilet on the sleeper train, that is just an open hole, all deposits go straight onto the track.......

At the station we hugged Shelly as she heads off for a few days in Koh Samui. Paula, Amy and I headed for Khao San Road area. Paula had stayed in a good place here previously and as luck would have it, they had rooms for us both at 500bht each per night Rambuttri Village Guest House (we decided to have a room each, to spread out and relax in our own ways). So equivalent to 7.50GBP ish.
At 2pm we waved Amy off, she is heading home to Sydney. Paula had a power nap but I just
could not rest, I showered, we'd put our Laundry in 50Bht (80p) I am so excited that we have done so much and are back in Bangkok where things feel a little familiar, and so looking forward to planning the next part. I really enjoyed Laos and have a tremendous sense of achievement, and it feels great to know that I do not have to go home now and back to work.
The evening we shopped to spend Paula's last baht's' and ate at her fav roadside cafe, (it was excellent food / price too). Next day I waved farewell to her, she is off to India next to join another group. We hope to meet up again in New Zealand, as she is planning to move there in January to be with Darren.
The funniest thing happened, as I waved Paula off, there was a Thai lady next to me waving someone, we spoke, ended up that she is staying at Hau Hin (on the Coast) and recommended it, asked me if I wanted a lift tomorrow ( Sat) I got cautious here (I am travelling alone after all?) and said I wasn't sure what I was doing, she

nearby walk to river understood and said, you may not trust me. I felt awful, and let my guard down 'a bit'. She was in fact lovely, Noi (which is her nickname as no-one can say her real name 'Nitchuda'), was waving off her husband who only had two weeks hol, she isn't working so has 6 weeks, he works for Customs at Stanstead Airport. She got her bag and checked out and took me across town on the bus's no. 9 and no. 511, to the bus station (I didn't have a clue where I was going, but decided I could always get a cab back if need be). She showed where I could get the ticket, where to wait for and catch the air con bus. We had a coffee and a long chat, she has been in England for 10 years but plan to move back to Thailand next year when her husband retires. She took me back on the bus and walked back with me to Khao san road. It was amazing. I felt stoked and she laughed when I said this is so much fun, she echoed 'fun' as if to say she is mad!!.
After this she

nearby walk to river was going on to meet her cousin at the temple. So I relaxed and walked a bit, found the Siam 11 backpacker place. Which we had been looking for as it was supposed to be so good. I went in and had a look around, it was hell. Noisy, kids, families, babies bawling, music, (that was just the Lobby), there was a pool outside full of teenagers. I asked at desk, how much, 790 Bht for room with air con and Shower (Big Deal). Where I am is 500Bht, and has all I need, plus closer to shops/bank/cafe/post office etc.
So eventful day, decided when I went to bed, to get two more nights here, and move on Monday, as reading about Hau Hin, looks as though busy at weekends. It looks quite good, and on the way down to Chumporn, for the islands. Noi had assured me it has all the things I will need, internet, onward travel bookings, banks etc and by the sea. She also gave me the name of a cheap Hotel there. She gave me her number and said to contact her when there and she will show me around.
Had an early night and still feel quite lazy today. Felt like normal food today also, so went to nearby cafe that does English Breakfast, had cornflakes, fresh orange, coffee and toast........ Sorry Jen, but sometimes its gotta be done, too much noodle and rice :-). May spend an hour or so by the rooftop pool, this afternoon, later wander amongst the buzzing markets full of more british 'backpackers', than there is in any UK city. Mostly groups of youngsters, but surprising amount of oldies, like me :-). Fantastic for people watching, can't shop, have to get rid of stuff not buy more.
