Day exploring the Temples in Bangkok! Finally arriving in Bangkok the excitement and anticipation of finally seeing Christel (my sister) after two and a half years was met with impatience....!! Finally her plane lands and i see her and Milaine and Melanie, friends who we will also be travelling with!! It's late at night when we arrive at our hostel on the backpacker famous Kho San Road, we could not imagine nor can i really explain how amazing it is to watch the Road addapt throughout the day to the needs of travellers. I suppose in an interresting mix we decide to go with safety in numbers and meet up with Jenny and Tyler a canadian couple that i met in Scotland that will also be in Asia through my travels!!! The next couple of days in Thailand's capital was spent exploring the street, temples, going through culture shock, embrancing the little old lady that will be feeding us Pad Thai off her cart on the street and our biggest dicision of the day was picking which combination of fresh fruit we wanted in our smoothy!! It never ceases to amaze me, wherever i am in the world there's always someone that appears out of somewhere ready
to take me to just the right person when it's decision time....in this instance that man was Joe! We'd all been dicussing over our stumbling days in bangkok where the next destination would be and what we were looking forward to seeing and doing, but after all 6 people travelling together makes for a lot of responsibility in making the final decisions so we let Joe do it for us!!! We wanted beaches and a chance to see as much of the south east islands and also the south wast islands as possible, with a bit of a limit on our time, so deciding on three nights on each of the islands we would visit, bus, boats and huts were booked, we'd be heading to the markets first and off to the south after.....thank you Joe!!!
The first market we got lost in was the chatuchak weekend market, with over 15,000 stalls, we gave it a good crack but also reallized soon the meaning of a popular catch phrase here in Thailand....same same, but different!!! A lot of the stalls selling pretty much the same items but in a different colour and of course all at a cheap cheap
Waterfall in Kho Samui
Jenny, Mel, Milaine, Myself, Chris and Tyler....taking a break enjoying the view!!! special price....which means barganing was put to the test!!!
A special and unique experience followed the next days as we arrived in the morning to the floating markets....here we saw much of the same same but differents thai souvenirs and foods from the day before only set up on longtail boats floating through the canals much to the likes of Venice, boats meeting boats when they got hungry or were interrested in merchandise. What a beautiful and bustling little market😊
You can never really say you get used to the 12 hour overnight journey on the bus to your next destination no matter how many times you've done it, somehow knowing there was a beach waiting for us at the end of it sort of kept a smile on all our faces...and what a beach it was!! Kho Samui beeing the first of our island stopovers proved to be a picturesque beach island with a friendly wave to play in!! After attempting to test drive the motor bike,s that so many people seem to use with ease on the island (we failed and even with three nurses we thought better!) exploring the island with the open air taxi's
Kho Pha-Ngan
what a beautiful sunset.... seemed like the way forward for us!!! Our first exploring adventure to the 80m water fall arriving at the base and happy with our view, out of nowhere again a local man saw we wanted more......ropes, vines, rocks, ladders we used all of natures best to hike to the top of the waterfall and all of us appreciated even more the rewarding swim and beatiful view at the top!!!
Kho Phanang was our next destination a bit more basic on the bungalows but always on the beach so how can you complain!! with a bit more of a party atmosphere we looked forward to a famous full moon party....only it was black moon time.....somehow the dates changed and dissapointed we reallized that we'd be leaving the night before. Never fails in backpacker world as everyday is a friday and when beach parties are to be had doesn't matter what the moons doing...hahaha so we got a bottle of rum and sat on the beach making our own buckets and waited as the beach turned from a tranquil haven to a bustling party, bars set up, foam parties, buckets and more buckets. Cheers!!!
Damage done fun was had we took
Buckets buckets and more buckets!
Sangsom, redbull and Coke anyone? on the mission of crossing over to the west side to Krabi, we had a day trip to the beautiful white sandy beach of Rai Leh discovering that the area is also famous for rock clambing, we got a little taste of climbing when we decided to head to the view point!! What a rush😊
Phi Phi Don island....what can you say I understand why they filmed the Beach here....winding streets, fire shows on the beach at night and an underworld mecca....We had a day off to Phi Phi Le feeding little monkeys, kayaking in the lagoons and of course exploring the jewels of the ocean snorkling, coral colours and fish galor!!!! What a spectacular day whatching the sunset between the islands😊
Here we must make a move as our time is getting short Chris, Milaine and Mel head to Phuket to fly to Chiang Mai....and Jenny, Tyler and I decided to make an adventure and test out the public transportation system!! With the help of our colour coded stickers that they hand us when boarding the boat, bus and train 36 hours later we reunite in the quaintest hostel in the bustling city of Chiang Mai.....goodbye beaches and hello
