Singapore Airport
4.30am and it's thundering and lightening, don't think they'll fly in this!!! After an early start from Singapore and a rather bumpy flight,
we arrived safely at Phuket airport.
Picked up the readily available free maps that were on offer.
Then hurried outside for a much needed cigarette after that flight!!!!
Then checked out the free maps, to get our bearings.....
Had the usual harassing taxi drivers badgering us!
400 baht each, to take us to Patong Beach.
Sounded a bit much to me......
Been stung by airport taxi drivers before!!!
We spotted the airport bus to Phuket town and hopped on - 85 baht each.(Good deal)
Got to Phuket bus station, to be harassed yet again by more taxi drivers, price still 400 each!!!
Whilst waiting for the Patong Beach bus,
the taxi price started to come down as low as 200 each!
Bus came, we hopped on, cost 10 each to make our connection.
Arrived at our connection, jumped on board,
cost 20 each and it stopped outside our hotel.
Can't be bad....
We actually did good, for a change!!!
And it was a lot
No delays!!!
So it looks like we are in for a bumpy ride!!!! Do I look nervous? more fun than riding a taxi....
The Lamai Hotel, turned out to be just like it's pictures.
So we weren't disappointed.
We dumped our stuff and headed out to check out our surroundings....
It's about a five minute walk to the beach from where we are.
But it takes longer because of the busy road you have to cross outside our hotel...
Loads of market stalls, selling fake designer stuff...
For a tenner you could kit yourself out with designer clothes, with matching shoes and handbag!
Our kids would love it....
(Sorry Skim, but you can't - No room in your backpack!!!) As darkness fell, we walked along Bangla Road - This road was really pumping!!!
Full of bars and night clubs, music blaring from all directions.
And this is where we encountered the famous lady boys.
It was then that we started to spot the seedier side of Thailand.....
Old men slobbering over thai girls, who were young enough to be their grandaughters!!!
Pretty young girls touting for business.
And hotel rooms being rented by the hour....

Thailand in winter!
Ho ho ho! Am I wrong or is Skid looking slightly, erm, 'tense' in the company of those lovely, erm, 'ladies'? He IS the one with no lippy on, isn't he? And looks terribly formal... It all looks lovely and warm, especially the electricity supply. Bet it wasn't like that in Singapore. Nice room, too! No trouble with mozzies, are there? Winter mozzies, that is. Are you going native with the Thai food? I do believe it's got some chili in it, and fermented fish sauce for authenticity. If youre taste buds have been shot off already, you'll be fine! Cheers for now, let me know where you want the winter spinach sent! Jane
