So we left our full moon hangovers at koh phangan and hopped on a ferry to Koh Tao, an island famed for diving. Due to the hoards of other party goers moving on at the same time we once again had to bite the bullet and go for the expensive accommodation aka the honeymoon suite, absolutely gorgeous. The villas were up in the hill behind the beach and consisted of a four poster bed private bathroom as well as outdoor shower, balcony area and massage style loungers…heaven!!
The weather unfortunately wasn’t as heavenly for the first couple of days so we spent most our time in our villas reading. After the first night of the sound of the newborn puppy behind our villa crying Gina gave in and began her Dr Doolittle routine feeding him milk every day and cuddling him until he went to sleep, what a softie!! He and the bitch became regulars at our balcony and the bitch seemed to develop a “once you pop you can’t stop” addiction to our Pringles!
On our third day Jem and I decided to spend the day scuba diving, despite the fact I had a bit of a cold.
The instructor said as long as I could pop my ears it was fine, well I could pop one of them so I figured that was good enough, silly move! We went out to a dive stop about an hour boat ride away and practiced our skills, like pretending you’ve run out of oxygen and nicking someone elses or my favourite, clearing your mask underwater where you fill it half up with water then blow the water out with you nose - Jem had a few issues with the whole blowing part!! We eventually passed all our skills although this would have been easier if I was weighted down enough, unfortunately I kept drifting off with the tide!! After our skills we headed out for our first proper dive. It was pretty good but my ear wouldn't pop and wasn’t incredibly pleasant and again I kept drifting back up until the instructor put all the weight he had in my jacket - obviously I look heavier than I am, not sure how to take that really?!
Our second dive was much better and I was completely weighted down and much more comfortable, we swam around for about 40 minutes seeing
barracudas, coral and lots of other fish I didn’t recognize. I even gained enough confidence to clear my mask, I figured I had to do it as all I could see was luminous flippers and I had no idea if they actually belonged to my group!!
Pleased with ourselves we headed back to meet Gina, headed out for dinner and drinks and met up with our Aussie mate from the full moon party again. After a few too many drinks me and Gina decided to give him a second chance on the pool table after his embarrassing attempt in koh phangan when he had the drinking tremors! Despite being paired with Jem he actually did pretty well and I was returned the “loser” sign I originally was giving him!!
Our last day we managed a bit of sunbathing before heading off on a boat then bus to Bangkok where we stayed for a couple of drink fuelled evenings before heading to Chang Mai, we plan to go back to Bangkok so I’ll leave those stories to the next blog…
In Chaing Mai we booked ourselves onto a thai cooking class, yes I know shocking, but hey we
can admit we’re shite in the kitchen!! However we’re now pro’s at least in making spring rolls, hot and sour soup(very hot!!), thai green curry and chicken with cashew nuts. So Lesley, Den and Mum get ready to be spoiled (or potentially poisoned!!)
After cooking we headed to the night market where we all got a bit over excited with buying presents (some admittedly for ourselves!) and now have the issue of trying to fit it all in our backpacks, oops!!
The next day we’d booked an elephant safari where we rode on elephant for about an hour, pretty scary stuff - I was convinced I was gonna fall out and into the mud but we all survived without any embarrassing moments. Then the elephants demonstrated the working skills such as how they were used for logging purposes, and some of their more pleasurable activities like painting and football, we could do with some of those kickers on the England squad!! Next up was a leisurely ride down the river on a raft than a slightly more bouncy ride on a cattle drawn cart before a buffet lunch, yum yum, and a visit to the orchid farm.
Now we have the train back to Bangkok to look forward to before we head into Cambodia. Until next time….

Looking at the photo's of you all I am thinking to myself is it possible that you have all changed into green food eaters and wannabe cooks or is it a false front you are putting on I think maybe the last thought might be right.Whatever it is you all look relaxed and enjoying the local things. The food market looks good. jem looks right at home there she will be ok in the french ones when she visits her mum and dad.Fiona and Gina you both look really into your cooking lesson are the scarves for hygiene or is it a new fashion of yours?
