Hello everyone...thought its about time I updated you all again as a week has passed already!!
So we eventually made it on the boat trip and surprise surprise, it started to rain!! Hannah and I decided to take cover in the captains hold and sat there miserable (the fact that we were tired and hungover didn't help too much either!!) We got to the first stop which was Coral bay for the first snorkel, needless to say neither of us got in the water. Hannah actually asked if we could be taken back whilst the others were snorkeling....obviously the answer to that question was laughter which I'm guessing meant "no". On to the next stop which was Shark Bay (great!) where you can expect to say black tip sharks...apparently they are harmless but I was having none of it. So again we sat and watched and were given first dibs on lunch which was great! Lunch was chicken and rice. Got talking to the really sweet thai guy who was running around all day on the boat and his name was "Dolai". Got chatting to some people on the boat and were all having a good laugh much of it
at mine and Hannah's expense as we had booked onto a snorkeling trip but had yet to dip so much as our toe's in the water!! We were pretty thankful when an Irish guy announced he couldn't swim, didn't like water and hadn't slept so took himself off to the hold for a nap, where he spent the rest of the day!! Next stop was Sairee beach for a snorkel, and this time Hannah got in! I was still a bit unsure about the whole situation so sat on the boat and spectated. After this we visited an island just a ten minute boat journey called Nang-Yuang which was beautiful - even if it was raining! There was an entrance fee of 100 baht and no plastic is allowed on the island. We stayed there for just over and hour and I finally made it into the sea with my snorkel!! Saw a rainbow fish which was really nice and then it started to rain so everyone ran for cover! We headed back to the boat and arranged to meet, Lucy and Leroy, Rick a.k.a Greg (didn't find out until the evening that his name was actually Rick and we
had all been calling him Greg all day!) and Ben for dinner.
That night we all meet at the Big Blue resort restaurant and Rick bought along Dan, they were sharing a dorm. Dinner was really nice (apart from all the uninvited guests at the table - some sort of wood bug?!). We all headed down to Fizz bar for some cocktails and then moved on to Lotus bar to watch the amazing fire show and all got pretty drunk on the famous buckets!
Felt surprisingly fresh the next day and the sun was shining (finally) so that really helped. Hannah and I spent most of the day around the pool with Simon and Ross (two guys on our resort) then took them to meet the others for dinner at the Big Blue again! This night I went for a Penang Curry which was really nice!! Hannah had the Massaman Curry which I went on to have the following night. The portions are huge and we both struggled to finish them, could have easily got away with sharing. The same happened again this night and we ended up in Lotus bar again until the early morning. Han and I bumped into Deano our geordie mate and he entertained us with his rendition on "My Old Mans a Dustman" whilst attempting to do a cockney walk! It was suggested early on in the night that me, Hannah, Rick and Dan met the next morning to hire quad bikes and go round the island.
Next morning and Hannah and I overslept and failed to meet the other two. Another day was spent round the pool. Went out that night to Choppers - an Australian sports bar - to have dinner and watch the football. Bumped into Rick, Dan and a few of there friends in there and apologised for not meeting them...we were forgiven! Whats so great about Koh Tao is that as its such a small island you always bump into people along the way and its like a local community, probably the reason we ended up staying there for 7 nights rather than the original 2! Went to Lotus for a third night running although Han and I had an early night as we were determined to rent quad bikes and had arranged with the guy who owns Snow (the really cute puppy) for him to take us up to his families restaurant in the jungle.
Met Rick and Dan the next morning and they brought their friend Steve along. Had some breakfast and Rick decided that he wasn't feeling too clever due to a late night and too much alcohol so he would pass on the quad bikes. We ended up renting scooters with Steve and Clare and had a really good day exploring the island. Took about ten minutes to travel from the very bottom to the top of the island on a scooter! Saw a whale skeleton, went to a few of the view points and went to a secluded beach which was only accessible by a concrete jetty which went round the rocks. It was our last night so we had all arranged to meet at our favourite spot - Big Blue! A few others had also joined the party so I think our little community had grown to ten. We thought we'd do something different this night and it was suggested we went to watch a lady boy cabaret (a suggestion made by one of the boys might I add). It certainly was an eye-opener and some of them were really convincing, others not so much... We rounded off the night with a cheeky drink in Lotus where we bumped into Dean again. Hannah and I said our goodbyes and headed off home around half past twelve. Very sad to be leaving Koh Tao.
