Surface time...
can we please get in the water now? Tuesday, April 21st
The naughty kitty joined us for breakfast again. We thought she wanted our food but it turned out she was just after attention. With a lot of stroking she quieted down and made herself comfortable on our bed (we could get a fine if management found her in our room, but we figured it's their cat so we'll risk it).
Our first dive site for the day was Shark Island because everyone hoped to see the Whale Shark again. It was also too windy to dive on the west coast. Our guide for the day was a funny character named Tom (he's almost a blond version of Austin Powers). The dive was fun and we tested our new masks. They work great and we're very happy with them. Unfortunately the Whale Shark didn't show but we did see a big grouper. At one point a very brave little fish decided that Talita looked like food, so he started nibbling on her legs which she didn't enjoy very much, memories of the aggro Trigger-fish still fresh in her mind.
The second dive was at Tanote bay on the east coast. It was great fun. There was a
scooter, a dirt-bike and a sunken catamaran somewhere in the area and we set out to find these. We came across the scooter first then spread out to better our chances of finding the catamaran. We found it without much trouble and played around it. We saw a very small Yellow Box-fish and a large Grouper. We then stumbled upon the dirt-bike after which we returned to the boat. That concluded our diving on Koh Tao.
After lunch we rented a scooter and headed south to Tian Og bay for a spot of snorkeling. In a lot of places the reef is pretty close to the surface so we swam for deeper water. We saw a lot of Parrot-fish, a few Butterfly-fish and a huge Barracuda. After an hour our necks were a little stiff so we decided to try the snorkeling on the north shore. We had forgotten about the winds of the last few days and the calm ocean we encountered on our first trip north was nowhere to be found. We were a little disappointed but we weren't about to attempt to snorkel in the choppy ocean. We decided to call it a day and head
home.
After doing a bit of laundry and cleaning our equipment we had a shower, then relaxed a bit. Naughty kitty found our open door and quickly made herself comfortable again. Dinner (chips and bread in our room) was followed by reading until bedtime.
Today's highlights:
1. Playing around the catamaran.
2. Seeing the huge Barracuda.

After packing and saying goodbye to Naughty Kitty, we checked out and headed for the pier. At 10:15 we boarded the ferry to Koh Samui. At 12:10 we arrived in Koh Pha-Ngan where we had to get off the boat and wait in the blistering sun for the next boat to Samui. Fourty minutes later we were on our way again.
When we arrived in Koh Samui we were told that the tickets we had to Surat Thani wasn't valid. We weighed our options and decided to stay on Samui then move on to Phuket the next day. We checked in to a place close to the pier. It was way too hot so we hid in the room till the sun went down.
We had dinner then went in search for some deep-fried chicken legs
in the market nearby. Ferdi hadn't had meat for a while and his body was screaming for some good old-fashioned chicken.
Today's highlights:
1. Making it to Koh Samui.
2. Finding affordable tickets to Phuket.
