After spending a few weeks in Southern Thailand, we've started to become accustom to the great life down here. Sleeping in, relaxing on the beach, swiming, scuba diving, partying and eating pretty well. We couldn't have asked for a better last couple weeks of our trip.
We took off from Koh Phi Phi and made our way to the eastern side of Thailand where we caught a boat to take us to the island of Koh Phangan which is famous for it's Full Moon Party. We decided to stay on the opposite side of the island and party beach because we heard it was absolutley crazy there. Turned out for the best.
We booked a beauty resort which costed 15$ a night. The most expensive we've seen to date. This place was unreal. We had our own private room which looked like a little villa, a gorgeous pool overlooking the ocean and one of the nicest beaches we've seen yet. Crystal clear water, no waves and a very secluded beach with not many tourists.
We stayed there for 2 days before the Full Moon party, relaxing on the beach, reading a lot and just taking it all in
before the big night.
Now the Full Moon Party. We've read about it, heard stories about it and all of that but nothing could prepare you for this party. We took a speed boat at about 10pm to the party. My kind of style. Role up to this massive party in a killer boat and jump out right onto the beach.
I don't know the exact number, but somewhere around 5,000 people where jammed onto this pretty good size beach. Music blaring everywhere, fire dancers all along the beach and TONS of booze stands selling the infamous buckets of booze. Each part of the beach had its own little bar section playing different types of music.
We cruised up and down the beach all night, meeting tons of people from all over the world, dancing up a storm and having the time of our life. We even painted our bodies in this flourescent paint which is the thing to do at the party. Us being proud Canadians, we painted flags on our shoulders. It was actualy a great conversation starter as we met tons of other Canadians this way and other people who just liked Canada!
By the end of the night, people were passed out all over the beach! We had to watch where we were walking because everywhere you'd see someone passed out. We finally jumped into a smaller long tail boat to go home. This took a bit longer and we were totally soaking wet by the time we got back to our beach.
We planned on leaving to go to Koh Tao after the party but we fell in love with our resort so we stayed a few extra days. One of our buddies we met in Koh Phi Phi came and met up with us so we chilled with him for a few days at our place. He was an air force pilot from Israel so we had some excellent discussions throughout our time together.
We finally left for Koh Tao. We got here and went to the same diving school Lisa went to last year. In 3 days, Geneve and I finished our Advanced Open Water course. We did 1 night dive, 2 afternoon dives on our 2nd day and our 3rd day, we woke up at 530am to go to the best dive site on this island
which was UNBELEIVABLE! We saw so many incredible fish and it was one of the best dives I've done in my life.
Since we booked with this company, we got our accomodation free which was an unreal bungalow right smack on the beach. Seriously, our view from our patio was the beach and the ocean!! We celebrated our last night in Southern Thailand with a few beers on the patio, a beauty Western meal at a good restaurant then some more beers at a real cool beach side bar that had good music and lots of fire dancers. They even had the kid of one of the fire dancers, a little 4 year old kid waving around his baton!
This was long but I haven't had time to write a blog in a while. We leave today for Chumpon then we take a night train back to Bangkok. Friday morning, we jump onto a plane and we are home on Saturday! 3 months have flown by but we are super pumped to see our families.
Till then, ciao!!
