We arrived in Koh Samui in the dark at about 6pm on 23 October. We are staying at Silver Beach Resort. Nice and has its own private beach!! Well suited to a loved up couple but not so much us! The place we are staying in Koh Samui seems a little far out and not really sure why we have been put here! We are in between 2 major areas but one is about a 45 minute walk and the other is over an hour! Still, a little exercise never did me any harm so sure we will still explore plenty!
The first night it was a little too dark to explore the unknown so we walked up the beach front and found a hotel serving food! I chose a simple pork salad not realising that it was Thai style and would have chillies hidden amongst the greenery! I almost called the fire brigade my mouth was burning so much! Still, it was nice and woke me up a little after the days travelling!
We did have a little wonder towards the nearest town area and my first impression was that it was a little like Bangkok but with
a beach! Still, I planned to keep an open mind and see what the next day would bring!

The following morning after breakfast we decided to head away from our own private beach and explore! We headed towards Lamai Beach as it looked closer on the map but still busy! Whe we arrived at the beach we grabbed a couple of loungers and soaked up some sun (if thats possible through cloud)! The beach and sea were not quite as beautiful as Phi Phi, or as busy as expected but still nice!
After a couple of hours snoozing and a dog trying to hide from the sun under my lounger whilst simultaneously giving me heart failure, we felt the rain begin to come down! People around us were packing up so we thought it best to do the same...it was lunch time anyway! No sooner had we walked off the beach and through the hotel (not ours), the heavens had opened! The rain drops were bigger than tennis balls and after weighing it up we decided we valued our lives and took shelter in the hotel watching cheezy pop videos! On a normal hoilday I
would have been pissed off as a day was wasted but as we have 8 months I felt I could cope!
The rain eased a little and we ran over the road for possibly the worst meal ever resembling sick on a plate! I vowed there and then to stay clear of western food in Koh Samui! We then headed back to our own beach for a while before braving the tempremental weather again for a night time stroll and food! Not the best start to our time in Koh Samui but you can't blame the weather on the place!

Today we decided to stay at our own beach. Not the hottest day and felt a few rain drops at times but still nice enough to lay! We had decided to try walking the other way that evening towards Chaweng as it seemed to be the main area. The walk took us over an hour and to quote the song it was a 'long and winding road'. Not really a path either and scooters kept coming flying around the corner at speed. The walk was an adventure in itself and we were glad we set
off when it was still light!
We got lost at one point as we tried to cut through a hotel from the beach to get back to the main road. The road was in sight but a 7ft gate with a huge padlock on stood in our way! I wanted to scale it but Nat at 5ft 3 thought it was a little high! We eventually found our way out, admitted defeat on the walking and jumped in a Tuk Tuk. Good job too because then the rain came down!
We sheltered in a bar playing pool for a while. Some great shots we played involving potting the white, the black and one anothers balls! I wouldn't exactly say we were budding Ronnie O'Sullivans anyway!! When the rain eased we walked a little further in the rain and found 'Happy Bar'. We rescued an Irish Guy from a Crazy German and then moved on a bit further! The poor Irish guy had had a bad day - crashed his newly rented scooter into a tree earlier that day too apparently!!! Nat is still sticking to her T-Total Guns at this point!!
Moved on for a drink in
another bar - looked pretty cool but soon realised it was a gay bar!! Moved on to an extremely busy bar after that and pretty much staryed in there until after 2.30am. Was a little like the bar from Cayote Ugly but with loads of pool games going on! Don't worry....Nat and I stuck to spectating, the participants were far too good in here!
The pool tournament was pretty good (basically winner stays on) and we saw a good few games take place. Did some major people watching too. Watching the Thai waitresses working a whole group of foreign guys, saw a group of old men with their Thai brides (whatever takes your fancy!! Not nice to think that old man is someones grandad though and the girls looked around 17). Ladyboy spotting was brilliant and some were so good I felt sorry for men on the pull out here!! Risky little game I think!!
Eventually the bar pulled the shutters down and over the noise you could hear the English shout Woo Hoo...Lock in tonight lads!! I got into bed around 3! After what started out as Nat and I treking around like Max and Paddy on
Thats me in the distance on the rock!!
I wanted to get on the big one but was so slippery I couldn't! And I was already injured...they say sharks can smell blood don't they?!! what felt like a road to no where (but without a van) turned into a pretty good night!

Got up a little later today. Decided to stay on our beach again. The sun was out today and the beach was busier than usual!! Loving my music at the moment! I lost myself in it at one point and thought I was alone....started singing out loud and moving my body to some kind of beat!! You can't blame me though as Lionel Richie and Dancing on the Ceiling is a classic tune!!
Had a good swim...the waters were so calm!! Cut myself on my hand, foot and finger tring to climb onto a rock though and then scraped all my knee when getting off! Still a tomboy at heart!! After what was another relaxing day we headed out for food and then into a swanky cliffside bar at night! Pretty cool place but to stay there for a long time you would need a lot of money as the drinks were pretty expensive!
Had a chilled time in Koh Samui but don't feel like I have done much! We were a little out of the
main area and if I came back I would like to stay in Chaweng and see a different side of it! Catching the boat to the next island tomorrow (27th) so looking forward to seeing what that island will bring!
