Since our last post we've had a bit of a wild ride! We finished off our project with CIVAS in Indonesia:
- by visiting Bogor Agricultural University and giving presentations to their students
- visiting a major dairy farm operation and learning about dairy co-op management
- visiting a wildlife rescue centre which care for animals caught in the live animal trade
- and finally making presentations to our CIVAS hosts about veterinary medicine in Canada and the OVC curriculum

Our project with CIVAS was an incredible learning experience for us - we were able to learn things about Avian Influenza that we never had heard of back at home. We were also able to fully grasp just how incredibly complex the AI situation is in Indonesia and how difficult it will be to resolve.

From Indonesia we travelled to the island of Ko Samui - a beautiful island situated along the south-eastern coast of Thailand. While in Samui we worked with the Dog and Cat Rescue Centre Samui - a local organization that is dealing with the problems of the many stray dogs on the island. Working at their main centre, we helped to do mass vaccinations and anti-parasitic treatments of their dogs and cats. We also did physical exams to identify cases which would need further examination from the resident veterinarian. We also were able to help out in spay and neuter surgeries. The vet does multiple surgeries a day in an incredible amount of time. He estimates that he has performed a few thousand spay and neuter surgeries in the 2.5 years that he worked there!

Soon we begin our project in Kasetsart University in Bangkok!
