family dinner at abasto
a wonderful meal with alvero and his wife luz helena, in bogota hi everyone! hope all is well with you back home!
as i'm sitting here about to post some pics of singapore and thailand, i realized i forgot to add anything about our last couple of days in colombia...specifically our time spent with another one of carmen's cousins. from medellin we flew back to bogota and went to a wonderful dinner with alvero (the cousin) and his wife luz helena. alvero had visited the US when he was in his early 20's and had some cool pictures of the whole family from his travels 😊 so, to say the least, we liked bogota better the second time around with such wonderful people to enjoy it with!
alright, so, next...we flew back to LA, drove up to atascadero to spend some time with yo and family, and then drove back down to LA to fly out to singapore.
singapore was interesting. very humid, incredibly clean, and damn expensive. we obtained "tourist transit cards" for unlimited railway use, which were relatively inexpensive, and got to know the transit system pretty well. we were able to make our way all around the city. after spending a couple of hours in the renown

adam, sean and christian took a long day hike during our brief stop in atascadero. here, adam and christian celebrate their accomplishment :) botanical garden and orchid park, we then decided to check out the high-end tourist area around the marina in downtown singapore, specifically the casino. well, we didn't stay long as the minimum bet for a blackjack table was $25! it was a nice place to see, but thankfully we flew out to phuket the next day.
phuket we didn't find all that interesting. sadly, it was pretty dirty, busy, and crowded. we tried to give it a second chance by heading to the west side of the area where there was a supposed nice beach, but again it was dirty and we found the people to be rather rude. so the next morning we took a 2 hour ferry ride east to the island of phi phi (aka ko phi phi, ko means island). this is a beautiful destination technically consisting of two islands, phi phi don and phi phi ley (big and small), with the larger island located just north of the smaller island. there is lodging only on the larger island, with day trips for snorkeling and kayaking to the smaller island (the smaller island is where the movie "the beach" was filmed). we stayed here for

sean at the lookout after the long hike two nights and while it was beautiful, it felt like a frat house spring break hotspot. so we left again, with a one hour ferry ride east to ko lanta, with the hopes of finding the quieter and more peaceful beach we've been searching for.
and we've found it! ko lanta is two larger island located in the southwestern province of krabi, the southern island draws most of the tourism and measures about 4 miles wide by 19 miles long. we found a cheaper bungalow-style hotel on the west coast of the island for the first couple of nights, then rented scooters yesterday and toured the entire island while staking out a nicer place to splurge on. so here we are...relaxing, drinking, and typing! 😊
about the food: we have a nice dinner planned here at the resort tonight, which i'm very excited for! that's a big difference i've noticed between asia and our experiences with carmen in colombia...in south america carmen could easily speak with locals and find wonderful little eateries that we thoroughly enjoyed. but here in thailand, not all thai food is good thai food. many hotels have little restaurants adjoined to them and we've

our little dirty little puppy who went on the dusty hike too been making the rounds ordering pad thai from nearly everywhere trying to get a good dish. granted, some weren't bad, however one that adam got the other day was undoubtedly noodles mixed with ketchup! i wish i spoke thai.
alright, enough typing, love and miss you all! we hope everyone is doing well and we're thinking about you 😊 xoxo
