It was mid afternoon when we arrived in Koh Lanta, we had an idea where to stay and we all jumped in a taxi. When it pulled up however it seemed to be in the middle of no where and definitely no bungalows to be seen. Erica and I left Mum, Dad and Justin to explore and found nothing but a few rocks and the sea. It turned out that the bungalows we had asked for had been destroyed by the tsunami, so why did the taxi driver not tell us? Any way after a few choice words with him, we got him to take us to a bungalow that Justin's Swedish friends stayed in. Unfortunately they were full, so we got him to take us to one more place. They only had one room available and there was another in the next resort.
Erica and I decided to have a walk up the beach whilst the others had a drink, as we were used to hunting for accommodation. The first place we came across was Fisherman's Cottages, a collection of very different bungalows that were reasonably priced. There were three available for us and also two extra rooms available
for when the others joined us later that day, result!
Once checked in we decided to hit the beach, which was idyllic. White sands, green sea and there weren’t very many people around. I texted the boys and a couple of hours later they appeared and were impressed with our choice of accommodation. Each bungalow is unique and quite funky. The guys who run it were brilliant and very helpful.
In the evening we ventured up the beach to check out the night life, Pete wasn’t well, Charlie and Justin went early which left the usual suspects out partying again!
On Friday Pete spent the afternoon sat in the shade as he still wasn’t feeling great, the rest of us bronzed our bodies and went for a swim. Dad and I skimmed stones, as we used to do when I was a child. The most I got was a six, Dad says he got a ten, but it was funny that he only did it the once, when I wasn’t looking!
Pete and Charlie left for Malaysia the following day so we went out for a nice meal and a few beers, despite Pete
I love Islands.
Spot the dog in the background! still being under the weather. As they had an early morning they were the first to leave, accompanied by Justin, who still hasn’t appeared to have gotten over his illness! After several hours Erica and Rich headed home and left Dan and I to have a couple more drinks. Some how we both managed to lose our flip flops and I lost my maglite torch, gutted. Dan had drunk far too much and was sick on the beach on the way home.
On Saturday we spent the day chilling on the beach again. Erica booked a trip to Koh Phi Phi for the following day with Justin whilst I decided to spend the day with my Mum and Dad.
In the evening Koon, Lap and O (The guys from Fisherman’s) took Rich, Dan and I to a club called Earth. We had a brilliant time and I don’t think we actually stopped dancing all night!
On Sunday Rich and Dan seemed to spend all day sleeping whilst I got up and met Mum and Dad on the beach, I think they were surprised to se me up so early. I was rather hung over so
spent the day sun bathing with Mum, whilst Dad spent most of the time either reading or in the sea.
On Monday Mum, Dad, Erica and I went on a boat trip to 4 Islands around Koh Lanta. It was lovely and hot and I spent most of my time sun bathing on the boat, whilst it was to hot for Erica as she covered her whole body in her sarong. We did lots of snorkeling, which we loved, even Mum enjoyed it. There were plenty of fish to see and we even saw a puffer fish and a scorpion fish.
We stopped for lunch on a beach, the food wasn’t brilliant but the beach was fantastic, we did some more snorkeling there and saw hundreds of huge star fish. We visited Emerald cave which we swam through. It brought us out in a lagoon in the middle of the island, very beautiful. Apparently it was used years ago by pirates to hide their treasure, unfortunately they didn’t leave any behind.
In the evening we had a BBQ at Fisherman’s and stayed there for the evening as it was Mum and Dads last night. We managed
to get my Dad drinking vodka buckets, despite what he says he was drunk. We know this as we managed to get him up dancing, in fact he was copying Rich’s dance moves, he actually did them better than Rich! Erica was a little worse for wear and had to put herself to bed! (but she did last longer than my Mum and Dad).
On Tuesday we had to say goodbye to Mum and Dad which was rather emotional. I dragged myself out of bed despite not having much sleep and I was really impressed when Dan and Rich got up too to say farewell to my parents. Their taxi came early so the goodbyes were a little hurried, but that was probably better than having to sit around and wait to say bye. With tears rolling down my face they left, it is hard to think that I won’t se them again for eight months, makes my eyes fill up now just thinking about it!
Despite wanting a relatively quiet night as we were leaving the following day ourselves, Lap was determined to make us stay out. He kept on feeding us all with shots,
Dad and Rich!
They got on so well, thought i had another brother! despite being T total himself! When you asked him to have a shot with you he would have a shot of orange, that’s not cricket! I was the first one to cal it a night as the events of the day had taken its toll. Erica woke me up when she got it not long after.
