Hope all is well with everyone and if you are in Canada we wish we could send you warm weather!!
We've had a great second week in Koh Lanta. As mentioned before, we're kind of just enjoying our resort, the beautiful weather and the wonderful people. It's amazing how we can put in a full day without having done much! We look forward to eating out at lunch and dinner as there are so many good restaurants to choose from. It's the major decision of the day! We've been having massages twice a week and are getting quite used to being pampered.
We met a couple from Cambridge, UK and have had dinner with them a few times. They are about our age and travel around much like us. We've been to many of the same places in Asia so it's fun to share stories.
Probably the highlight these past few weeks is our overnight trip to the island of Koh Jum to visit our friend Glen (pronounced Glin). We met her five years ago when she worked at a favourite restaurant of ours on Koh Lanta. We have kept in touch with her through Danny and she
invited us for a visit to her island.
It was great to re-unite and to meet her husband and two little girls. She and her husband opened a restaurant a few years ago and are doing well. The furniture in the restaurant is beautifully carved wood and very inviting not to mention the delicious food. There are some tourists in the high season who visit the island (Jan. - Mar) and virtually none during the other nine months hence their restaurant is closed during low season. During that time Glen and her husband fish and work on their parents' rubber plantation for their livelihood. Because of the short tourist season they work very hard and put in long hours at the restaurant.
Glen showed us around a bit on the first morning and then kindly let us use one of their motorbikes to tour around the island. We bombed around through little villages, rubber plantations and beautiful costal areas overlooking the ocean. Some of the roads were only gravel and sand and quite bumpy to say the least, however being the excellent rider Warren is we managed fine.
There are numerous resorts scattered throughout the island. We
stayed at the Andaman Resort which was very nice, on the ocean and very close to Glen's restaurant. We toured some beautiful secluded resorts built along the mountains overlooking lovely beaches. Quite amazing and considering the setting and facilities a fair price. This is where you want to be to "get away" from it all
Glen and her family were such wonderful hosts and we enjoyed visiting with them, playing with their girls and learning their way of life. Their home is in the back of the restaurant and the girls play happily after they get home from school. They do a good business and is popular with the visitors from the Andaman Resort. The night we were there the six tables were full all evening.
It's hard to believe we have only 10 days left in Thailand until we leave for Bali. Thanks for reading.

I write this on a blustery, snowy, cold day. It took me 45 mins. to drive from Mayfair School to the university because traffic was just crawling and so backed up on the bridges. Everyone seems to have less patience with the weather lately. We leave March 13. I look forward to seeing you in Bali. After looking at your photos, I think you are going to find Kuta very crowded and busy
