I ended up on a two day liveaboard trip in the Similan Islands. But the two days were so good I added a third day. So in total, I did 12 dives, including two night dives. We saw a leapard shark, sting rays, a bunch of cool fish that change colors, a bunch of scorpion fish (don't know if it's true but I heard if they sting you, you die within minutes), and quite a few huge sea turtles. The turtles are surprisingly friendly and swim relatively close to you. We heard reports of another boat seeing killer whales but we weren't that lucky. The night dives were great. Another awesome national park down south. The pix of the langur monkeys were taken at Ao Ton Sai beach in Krabi. Found a great place to stay in the hills of Krabi called Phanom Bencha Mountain Resort , 075-660501) that had wonderful wooden fan bungalows for 800 baht a night with grand views of an epic pink/white/black limestone crag. The bungalows are set in a lush garden. The manager had to drag an 8-foot python away from the resort. He grabbed it with his hands, put it in a burlap bag, and walked away with it over his shoulder. The thing was thrashing for its life in his sack. For more info on the national park and the 3-day hike to its summit (where a leopard was photographed recently by a French photographer), check out Thom ... read more

Shower, down for (bland) breakfast - come back to sort out bag/debate going to Post Office but watch some TV then 915 decide to check-out and run the gauntlet of taxi drivers to walk to the Khao San Road for the airport bus. Checkout easily, and run into David who's staying in Bangkok for another day. Get past all the drivers... One even offers me a metered taxi, not sure I believe him (or whether he'd take me straight to the airport), and anyway, bus looks ... read more
