First time on the motor bike
A bit scary at first but got used to it quite quickly! After our first experiences with the trips in Thailand in Krabi town we set of to Ao Nang. A bit more beach oriented town. In a way it reminded a bit of Phuket, only without the negative sides. You could see it was a strongly tourism oriented town but because of the green season (a way of saying the low season the Thai prefer) a lot of small bars were closed or cleaning up for a long-term close.
We received a warm welcome by the Italian owner of our hostel
3 Bees Guesthouse. He immediately offered to book all sorts of trips for us and also asked if we were interested in renting a motor bike. This last thing got my special attention. I never really drove a motorbike before and nor did Wanda, but coming from the Netherlands and basically growing up riding bicycles I figured it couldn't be that hard. It did not take a lot of time before we decided to rent one. At first it was a bit of a struggle, especially since Wanda thought I did not have any problems with driving one and almost immediately hopped on the back. Nevertheless after a few minutes i got
The weekend market
Food stalls everywhere and music playing all night long! the hang of it, and it is one of the most recommendable experiences in Thailand! What an incredibly easy and especially cheap way of exploring the area.
It wasn't for long till we packed our bags and went for day trips on the motor bike. En-fin, we took the bike around the entire area but when we stopped to fill up the tank a local guy came up to us and asked us to come in. At first we thought he just wanted to show us something. But when we entered his small one-room house, he asked us enthusiastically to join him to sit on the bed and watch the kickboxing with him. He was as a little boy so proud to show the boxing and his house to us and to have -in his eyes- such important guests. We felt very flattered, but soon he started to grab some magazines and proudly showed them to us which contained some scarcely dressed ladies, so we decided it was time to continue our journey, upon which we greeted him friendly and thanked him for his hospitality.
With mixed feelings we took off. I am sure the man did mean no harm so I decided it was best to feel honored by making him feel so special because of our visit and think back to it as a great and funny memory. A few hours later we found ourselves driving through the magnificent area of the Krabi Province. Surrounded by fields filled with palm trees and colossal mountains on either side of us, we drove back to Krabi town, to treat ourselves to a feast at the Krabi evening market.
Although, when we arrived in Krabi we found ourselves surrounded by small market stalls in the center of the village. We soon found out that we stumbled upon the weekend market, an even bigger market than the night market. Here was not only delicious food being sold but all kinds of goods. There even was a pop stage where they played western boy band music on full volume, which was interesting addition to the vibe to say the least.
At 6 o'clock sharp a different type of music began to play and everybody stood still. Thanks to the lonely planet we knew exactly what was going on, the National Anthem. Being played twice a day, and out of respect everyone stands still and listens. It gave quite a strange feeling, to see the world standing still and everybody turning completely silent. But after a short three minutes, everyone continued with whatever they were doing.
It was a long drive back and late in the evening when we got back to our guesthouse but it was important that we had a good nights rest because the following day, a second 4 island tour was awaiting us!
Till next time everyone!
