Pai Pai me oh my
it does not get much better then this... The night that Nell left for the sunny isles of England and Ireland i had a dream that when i got to the station to get my sleeper trai ticket for Chang Mai they told me there was no more seats left because of a national holiday...so when i woke i thorght of this as nonsence and got to the station, went to Ayutaya which is a small town 2 hours outside of BKK saw some cool temples by night, though missed the night boat sunset trip...met some funny French people and had Big noodles for dinner; when i got to the station to book my ticket for Chang Mai so that i would be there for the sunday markets, i was told that there was no tickets until sunday...because of a national holiday!!! This all felt strangly familar...though i managed to convince the ticket man that there was a seat available for me, in 3rd class with no ac, all the
windows open...which started off being 12 hours became 15 hours...all the nights bugs coming in and biting you and making you feel like you can't sleep for fear of the Malaria bugs coming and getting you...you pretty much read
local fruit
Mango Bain...looks purple and unfriendly but it lush and will be the next big thing a book but that can not distract you from the pain of sitting down for 15 hours. When i finally got to Chang Mai it was such a welcome relief, though it was 7 in the morning none of the guesthouses would take me till 11/9am which i just could not handel, i finally found one, that said i could check in right then...hurray hurray...i went to sing the book and all, and the guesthouse owner just took one look at me and told me to go up to my room take a shower and go to sleep, that i could check in later...i must have looked terrible.
Chang Mai is a great city 1 million people around and in it...the best night market i have ever been too, got some many Bargins of clothes, books, strange Thai Chocolate cake, kittens and puppys to buy, massage to be had. As i walked around the market i thorght that if i was here with Liz and Sarah Khan i would never get out, what with the Massage for Liz and all the Bargins to be had by Sarah...
Did a day adventure trip which took me and 6 other
temples
all very romantic at night Spanish people in a around the local country side, they all speak with their hands and arms and talk at each other not too each other, they get easyly distracted by pretty sparkly things and shout an awful lot. I liked them all right from the start. We went to see a hill tribe village which is mainly made up of Berma refugees from 100 years ago, though still very rural...i did take a wonder around and found a massive Satalite dish...i bet they get better and faster broardband then i do back in London???
We did a Elephant treck, which was amazing. I loved it and kept saying to the guy who was on the Elephant with me..." they are very big" " yes Robin they are elephants!!! " " yes but they really are very big".... Saw some huge Elephant poo all very good. We then got across the river by a cage swing, and then headed off into the Jungle for a treck...it was just beautiful, the lush Northern Thailand jungel, a bit of rain, though what isNorthern Thailand jungel without a bit of rain? Lunch was a none event as they Veggie statous had not
Chang Mai
The Paris of the East been comuncated well so all i had was some rumbatun...very nice though.
The afternoon was taken up by white-water rafing which was amazing, big water, enough to get you totally wet, for me to loose my paddel, though none of us fell in which i found amazing...we had water fights with the other boats and team Spain played very dirty...very unsportsman like...shocking...
We then had to get from one boat to the Bamboo raft to get down the rest of the river, i stood up put one foot on the Bamboo raft and the pols parted, my whole leg went though the raft and the other part of my body fell back and i went under the water traped by the raft....it was all very drematic for a whole 10 seconds when one of our guides jumped in and
got my traped leg out and got me onto the raft...the rafting down was nice and relaxed afterwards, no more injurys...though now i am up in Pai i keep falling down stairs, hitting my feet on the kick stand on the pink mopedi hired...so my legs look terrible, i also managed to fall off a bench trying to
avoid a huge fly bug that was aiming it me...so i am limping and not leaning back my way aroudn this great town...
Well it has now been almost a week since i have got here and i have done nothing towards thinking about leaving...everyday it is sunny though not so hot that you have to hide in the shade for the better part of the day. The people areso relaxed tha they seem vertical and smile the biggest smiles that i have ever seen in the world...just to smile. I love it here in Pai and feel the need to stay in my bamboo bunaglow a bit longer and do as the locals do and hang out. There are some great bars and we all hang out till the wee hours of the morning in them...Bebop even has live bands who sing Offspring covers of " pretty fly for a Thai Guy" it great...I got some Reiki done by an English woman who has lived here for 4 years...tempting!!! I felt really good afterwards. We went to an 80's diso the other night and Raoul from Austria and Steve from Oz did the Thriller dance for English Jenny
Massage Liz????
for 1 pound 50p for an hour...it would be rude not too... and i ....was a really fun night.
I had read and finished the last Harry Potter book. I loved every moment of it and now feel like a great big part of my life it over, i did have a little cry at the end and now have only 2 more films to look forward to. I will just have to find a whole new set of children's books to get involved with...so Olivia if you had any reconmendations please let me know.
Right i am off to watch a movie, you can rent out a film room and watch DVD's great fun...they even make pop corn for you...what a town...
