Finally in Chiang Mai!/Al fin en Chiang Mai!

After 14 hours of flight, overall, I arrived to to Chiang Mai yesterday at 19 pm! During all that time, and particularly the 5 most boring hours of waiting for my flight to Bangkok in Helsinki, I was thinking that Thailand must better make up for the long time it takes to get there... I have only been for a day, and all I can say is that it sure does!

Tras 14 horas de vuelo en total, llegue a Chiang Mai ayer a las 7 de la tarde! Durante todo ese tiempo, y particularmente durante las 5 horas de espera de mi vuelo a Bangkok en Helsinki, pense que mas valia que Tailand mereciese la pena todo el tiempo que cpstaba llegar alli... Aunque solo he estado un dia, solo puedo decir que desde luego que si!

The flights were ok though, although I almost had a heart attack when I did not see my backpack coming in at Chiang Mai airport. My worst nightmare, really... So I went to this thai guy smiling at me and asking if my backpack was blue, so he started laughing because it had been sent in the previous flight! (no idea why or how, but ok).

Los vuelos fueron bien, aunque casi sufro un ataque al corazon cuando vi que mi chila no salia de la cinta en el aeropuerto de Chiang Mai. My peor pesadilla hecha realidad... Asi que me dirigi an un thai de lo mas sonriente que me pregunto si mi mochila era azul, y empezo a rerise porque habia sido mandad en el vuelo anterior (ni idea de porque o como, pero en fin)

Then I went straight to the guesthouse and I it was a strange moment, arriving to the room and realising that... ok, that is it. Now... what? So, I went downstairs to chill and have a beer, where I met a French couple travelling arround the word and another french girl. And from that moment onwards, sandals on, (mosquito repelent on as well:-), humidity 90%, chilled atmosphere, going for a thai dinner with them in a cute place outside, having beers at a place sitting in thai cushions (all these for 6 EUR or something, cogarretes inlcuded)... everything flowed really. Holiday feeling kicked in, and it has not left so far.

De ahi fui directamente a la guesthouse y fue un momento extranyo, llegar a la habitacion y darme cuenta de que... vale, ya estoy aqui... y ahora que?? Asi que baje para abajo a relajarme y ttomarme una cervexa, donde me encontre a una pareja francesa y otra chica francesa. Y desde ese momento, sandalias puestas (y repelente de mosquitos:-), 90% de humedad, ambiente relajado, yendo a cenar a un thai en la terraza, tomando cervezas en un sitio sentados en colchones por el suelo y con musica en directo (todo esto por 6 EUR, cigarros incluidos)... todo fluye naturalmente. El sentimiento de vacaciones me invadio, y no me ha abandonado hasta el momento.

Today I went to the thai cookery course, and it was good fun. My red thai curry with fish was not that good (I think I burnt it a bit...), but I learnt interesting stuff and will be proving it to you at my return (need to show Chris how it is done:-)! Pictures will hopefully come soon. Not today, coz this internet is quite slow and it took me just 5 min to open this site...

Hoy fui a l curso de cocina y fue muy divertido. Mi curry rojo con pescado no estaba del todo bien (creo que lo queme un poco), pero he aprendido cosas interesantes y os lo demostrare a la vuelta (necesito ensenyarle a Chris como se hace:-). Las fotos espero que lleguen pronto. No hoy, porque este internet cafe es de lo mas lento y me tomo 5 minutos solamente para abrir esta pagina...

The only downside to all this is that it has been raining all day, and it appears that it will not get better in the coming days. Apparently I cant escape the rain no matter where I do, even it I travel 8000 km away from the Netherlands...

El unico problema de todo esto es que ha estad lloviendo todo el dia, y parece que no va a estar mejor en los dias que vienen. Parece que haga lo que haga no puedo huir de la lluvia, aunque viaje 8000 km desde holanda...

Anecdote of the day. I have met in the course an australian girl who also lives in Amsterdam, and in the street next to mine! Such a strange world...

All for now, my dears, must go an do some shopping (still no flip flops!) in the night bazar... yeahhhh! (after all, noone said that laura backpacker will give up on being laura shoppaholic)

PS:Pineapple shakes are heavenly in this place!!!

Todo por ahora, queridos mios, he debo irme de compras (aun sin sandalias!!) en el mercadillo de noche... siii!! (despues de todo, nadie dijo que laura mochilera tenga que dejar de ser laura adicat a las compras!)

PD: Los batidos de pinya son absolutamente increibles en este sitio!!
