Dec. 24th- At 8am we made our way from Bangkok to Pattaya from the Sukhumvit Rd. staion. It was a 2 hour bus ride for 117THB. When the 3 of us arrived it was the whole routine… negotiate for a cheap room for 3 people. The people at the tourist information place was tying to tell us that everything was full and the cheapest that could be offered was about 1,300Baht. We just went on our way towards South Pattaya hoping to find anything lower than 1000baht. After 3 hours we found a room at BR Inn for 500Baht a night. Later that day we headed to the dirty Jomtien beach to sun bathe and swim. This wasn’t the best beach out of the ones that Thailand has to offer. At night we went to the Red Light District called Walking Street. They offer almost anything from girls, cheap drinks and Thai boxing (Muay Thai) this is one of the reasons we were in Pattaya. You only have to buy a drink to watch the fights. We got some pictures with the boxers and right after taking them they tried hustling us for money, we pretty much just ran away. We
watched another fight at 8pm. I have to say these fights are pretty intense. I scored a few videos for my brother’s entertainment and left. I was starting to feel a bit sick from the salty ocean water so we headed to the guest house to change and freshen up for a movie. We saw the 11pm showing of I Am Legend for 80Baht, at this price and quality it was worth seeing it 3 times in a row. I immediately knocked out when we got back to the guest house while the other two, Tracy and Lee went to see National Treasure part 2.
Dec 25th- I was the first one up at 8am on Christmas and decided to get some hot tea at the nearest Starbucks down the street. While I was there I was able to catch up on some news and really really last minute gifts. I got both Lee and Tracy 2 huge Bangkok mugs for Christmas. It was 250 Baht each (close to $10). After my tea I scored a half kilo of fried bananas off a push cart for 20Baht. The best part of being an asian tourist in Asia is
being able to blend with all the other natives. You can get away with great prices if you master a few practical phrases and the accent. We went to a travel agent to see what was around Pattaya. Many of the attractions were out of our budget like elephant trekking at 1,500Baht. The second reason for being in Pattaya was to bungy jump. We had our hearts set on doing it on Christmas day, but the Jungle Bungy Jump Company didn’t have electricity that day. We had to reschedule for the 26th at 12pm. It was 1,600/ person for the jump and the pick up ride to the place and where ever after that. After the reschedule we headed to the other beach called Pattaya Beach. It was a little bit more peaceful but it was pretty much the same quality as Jomtien. We chilled at the beautiful outdoor mall and found free things to do like running in the dancing water falls and running up the opposite side of the escalator. We all headed back to the guest house early because we had quite a trek the next day. It was an interesting Christmas only because theres only about
0.08% Christians in Thailand. However, they made it as christian for all the tourists.
26th- we pretty much wake up at 10am and lounge till we have to check out and head out to the bungy place. It took about 20 mins to get to the location. We signed the registration papers paid our fee and stared at the contraption that was going to haul us 50 meters (120+ feet) up in the air. Of course Lee being the guy with the ego to defend went first. I swear it took him 45 mins just to grow the balls to jump off the ledge. I think the whole time I was calling him a pansy. Next was Trace and I. I weigh 46 Kilos and she weighs 50kilos so there wasn’t much tension the workers had to worry about. It took 2 mins to get from the ground to the prospective height of 50meters. It was this point when I understood why it took Lee so long to jump off the ledge. I was ready to go the moment we reached 50meters. I wanted to count down but Tracy wasn’t mentally prepared. It took about 10 minutes for her
Jungle Bungy Jump
50 Meters is higher than it looks! to get in her element and finally take the leap. Half way down I thought it was going be worst, but it wasn’t too bad. I think I was laughing more than I was screaming. At least I can cross off one of the “things that I have to do in my lifetime.” Because Lee took so long to jump off he decided to jump again for 1000Baht to regain himself and Tracy went along with him. They had to use 2 cables due to their collective weight. It was already 2pm when we headed to the Bus station back to Bangkok.
