Waiting for Eric to get back from the store we got a little bored;this is how we entertained ourselves! THE STORY OF A GIRL AND A SNORKEL
Picture this...crystal clear water, turquoise, aqua, just about every color one would ever want it to be. Justoff the beach of a tiny little uninhabited island. A total paradise. One would probably live here if she could. All this and one of Thailands most famous reefs. And then it was time to go in...
...all suited up: two flippers, a life vest, a tight mask with a snorkel, and a girl fully motivated to conquer the ocean and all the lil slimy, disgusting and man-eating fish that she may encounter on her journey. To others these fish may be considered harmless, peaceful, curious, and extraordinary, but to this girl they are quite terrifying. However, she was still willing to take a chance to see if maybe in fact these little creatures are actually that extraordinary.
Looking so brave in her snorkeling gear. She puts her face into the water and sees a lovely creature, maybe three inches in length, blue and yellow striped, literally inches from her face. Most individuals would be so fascinated and want to continue to dive in to see what else could be discovered. However, to
this girl what she saw was a a 20 inch baracuda ready to pray on her. She jumps back and uses the flippers to shoo away all the deamons and dashes to shore for safety. The slightest movement in the water caused this girl to be in complete panic. Her friends are filled with laughter realizing that going snorkeling with their "special" friend was going to be very interesting, especially because what they know of her is confidence and fearlessness. Here she was vulnerable, panicked, and terrified.
After two hours of enjoying the crystal clear water from the shore, the sun's rays, the island breeze and the wonderful sounds of the rolling waves, the girl attempts a second chance for victory. Again, all suited up and looking brave. She dunks her head to see the same lovely, blue and yellow striped creatures swimming about. This time...she lets out a huge squeal for all to hear. The few people on the island stare. The girl wet and foolish jumps to the nearest boulder to free herself of all the creatures surrounding her. The boulder gives the girl security to watch as the schools of fish past by.
As she
sits and watches the fish beneath her, she realizes that she has been defeated by the ocean yet one more time. As much has she hopes to one day enjoy the extraordinary beauty of fish, she knows that she will either need to be severely medicated or hyptnotized because to her those fish in that ocean were and probably will always be slimy, disgusting, and man-eating. To some, it looks as if she is missing out on the beauties of this lovely world, but to her it's part of the world she is not prepared to venture to and accepts that that is the way she will be and is at least proud of her efforts on this day. The girl may not have enjoyed the day snorkeling, but she loved the beauty that the uninhabited island shared with her and the company of her very supportive friends. (Even if they were laughing at her expense).
THE END
Ok...so maybe I am the girl in the story...Seriously the fish are out to get me!
These past two days have been absolutely gorgeous and rain free. Yesterday, after sleeping in, we enjoyed a full day at
the beach. Lying around, reading books, listening to music, chatting, swimming, and devouring an oceanside lunch and dinner is how we spend most of the day. We did however, take Kayaks to a near island for an adventure (Yes Auntie Esther I made sure that I waved to Cuba). There on that island we made coral reef tree decorations (which seems to be a tradition considering there were several hanging), searched for shells and crabs. Considering I have an attention span of a child, I was quickly bored with seashell searching and set out to find coconuts and bamboo sticks. We returned back to Ko Chang at sunset, took quick showers, and set out to the silk shop for a first fitting of our new tailored outfits. I purchased a dress and two work pants (pretty spiffy so far). We then ended our day at our new favorite restaurant located a few steps away from the crashing waves for dinner and drinks.
Today, we went to another near island to snorkel (I waved to Cuba Again). We finally found the crystal water we were in search of. We stayed on the island for the majority of the day. Then
came back to watch an extraordinary sunset. Later we are going to attend a party that the hotel is throwing. Tomorrow is our last day on the island. We have been so fortunate to have lovely weather these past two days, and our hope is that tomorrow is yet another beauty. We hope to return to the very same island that we enjoyed so much today!
When you travel, time becomes so different. It is hard to explain to a person who has never done a trip like this. It seems as if I (My mother probably thinks this too) have been here for so long. Our days have been busy and I have seen and experienced so much that it is difficult to believe that I have accomplished all this in only 3 weeks. At the same time, it is hard to believe that in a few days, it will all be over and I will be back home needing to go back to work. School starts soon...whoa! This trip has been a wonderful way to spend a summer.

I guess we just need to accept the fact that we are a bit "loco in the head" and move on. Glad to see you are looking good and making friends with coconuts... again "loco". Can't wait to see you at home this trip is indeed too long for me. Love you, Maka
