Our first South East Asian train was late!!! At 1:20 pm we were on our way to a town called Pak Chong, which is close to the khao Yai national park. The train journey was really nice if not long and uncomfortable, as this wasn't your usual intercity speed train. No this one had great big wooden seats. What it did have though was big slide down windows that gave us some much needed breeze as it was a hot day outside. The scenery as we started to arrive in Pak Chong was really nice too, with rolling hills, temples and statues of Buddha in the distance. On the train there was a constant stream of people walking up and down the aisles selling everything from drinks, crisps to dried out fish and rice wrapped in ... read more

In accordance with trying to keep my resolution of trying to clear the backlog of entries, I'll post more blogs today. We never made to the town but never made it to the park itself. If you are wondering why I'm going to Pak Chong, it is because it is the closest town to Khao Yai. Before I divulge into details of why I never made it there, I should first describe the train ride to Pak Chong. Train-ride to Pak Chong The ride itself was about 2+1/2 hrs but unlike the train to Ayruthaya it only contained 3rd class cabins. This means that ... read more

This week has been proper extreme, trekking through the rainforest!! I was trekking with my bag full of stuff for the journey for eight hours in one day, exhausting! I took two backpacks as one of the Dutch girls was struggling so I took hers, how silly was that?! The waterfall was beautiful so it was a good crack but sleeping in the hammock with all those creepy crawlies wasn't exactly a barrell of laughs. Got stung and bit so many times its unreal! It was a real experience though and when we got to our homestay we were so thnakful just to even have the basic things like fresh water. It really opens your eyes as to how much we take for granted! We saw some illegal Muay Thai boxing which was amazing, Natalie and ... read more

(Kev) Its been about two weeks since we last updated the blog. during that time we have visited, Panang, the Perhentian Islands, Trang, Ko Mok, Au Nang, and the place we are now…Bangkok. We took a ferry from Medan to Panang. the ferry was supposd to only take about four hours…(but not surprisingly) it took much more than that (closer to 6 or 7). However the time was not a factor because I had a Robert Ludlum book that preoccupied me for the whole time. We arrived in Panang around sunset. I immediately felt a sense of peace, resulting from a combination of being able to breathe again and having the sense of claustrophobia removed that had engulfed me in Medan. Panang is a pretty city with lots of atmosphere. it actually reminded me a little ... read more
