Sorry I haven't posted in two days, Drury and I have been enjoying our time in Bangkok. It's an amazing city and I will try and catch everyone up on what we have been doing.
We woke up the first morning and had breakfast at the hotel which has a wonderful buffet of Western and Asian foods. We then contacted Drury's friend, Margo, who invited us on this trip who arrived that morning. We immediately got in a cab and headed over to her hotel across the river. After a brief hello at her hotel, we headed off to get her something to eat as she literally had just landed in Bangkok. She had some flight troubles as her flight on Turkish Air was cancelled so they re-routed her from Houston to London and then from London to Bangkok on British Airways. We laughed as it took her the same amount of time to travel east around the world as it took us to travel west.
After she had lunch we found a place to get foot massages and all relaxed and caught up and had a great time. We all received an hour foot massage and it only
cost us $7.00 per person! I love Bangkok! You can get a full hour Thai massage for around $10.00. I am definitely going to take advantage of this while I'm here.
We split and headed back to the hotel to relax and Margo waited back at her hotel for her friend Micki to show up. The two of them then met us at our hotel for drinks in the bar and then dinner. I posted some photos of our dinners which were all very good. The food here is amazing and I don't do well with spicy, but if you ask them for no spice it is really good food.
The next morning we all decided to relax by our pool at the Peninsula. The pool is gorgeous and Drury went out early enough to get us the little huts that had ceiling fans. Margo needed to get a pedicure so I headed out with her and we set out on an adventure to find a place for her to get her nails done. We found a shopping center about 10 minutes away and while she got her nails done, I had a Thai massage next door. The
massage was definitely an adventure as I was put in this small closet with a little bed and told to change into clothes they had provided. These clothes were made for someone who weighs over 400lbs and I laughed as I couldn't keep the pants up and the shirt drowned me.
The small Thai lady gave me a full hour massage stretching my arms and legs and using different pressure points. It was not a relaxing massage like a Swedish one is, but I did feel really good afterwards.
After my massage, Margo said she wanted to get a foot massage and would I get one with her. I laughed and decided, why not? So we both had a foot massage and then headed back to the hotel. The whole cost for a Full Thai massage and two foot massages was around $24. AMAZING!
Drury and I explored the famous Bangkok nightlife and it was definitely very eye opening and quite an adventure. And since we are not night owls, we called it an early night and got back to the hotel about 11pm. But let me tell you, Bangkok has a crazy Red Light district for
all types of people. I'll just leave it at that as it was definitely quite an experience.
Tomorrow we will change hotels and meet up with the tour. We definitely do not want to leave the beautiful Peninsula hotel, as it is an oasis in a crazy and busy city.
