Monday night was my packing night. I divided my belongings in 2: half was going to stay in Thailand in storage and the other half was going to be with me in the next leg of my trip: the Philippines. Once I had 2/3 of my stuff sorted I had to take a break. I sent a quick message to my classmates to go celebrate my last night in Thailand. Last minute decision and I was thinking to repeat one of the rooftop bars I had already been to. Scott suggested to go to an Sky bar called Lebua…but he worn me, one of his friends told him it was expensive. I googled it really quick and found that it was the Sky Bar where the movie “Hangover 2” was filmed at. I was sold. “Let’s go there!” I said. “One drink is not going to break us”. Transportation to Lebua Sky Bar in State Tower is very easy: take the BTS to Taksin BTS station and walk half a block. You can’t miss the hotel because it has a huge Gold Dome that you can see from almost anywhere in Bangkok. It’s located near the Chao Praya River at the
bottom of China Town. We got there and they took us to a small bar to have a drink and wait to get to the nice bar. The waiters trick you to have a drink there and yes it is nice but that wasn’t what I saw in the online pics. We insisted to be taken to the other bar …. before our drink was gone and we had to order another one. Finally we got the turn to go! As soon as we stepped in we were mesmerized! The view is breathtaking.
The top is not to high, only on the 63th floor and very dramatic view because it is actually closer to ground level and the angle of view from the entrance it makes the viewer feel that the bar and the restaurant are suspended over the river. We actually walked around the bar to take photos and we almost got a bit of vertigo, it is sensasional. The view of the architecture and the design are definitely worth the price of the drink. I much rather see that than spend my money in any museum. In the drink list we saw a glass of Cognac for
20000 THB the equivalent to $600USD!! Room start at $120USD in low season….
To go to the Sirocco restaurant you need a reservation but the sky bar is a walk in with casual dress code susposely inforced but we saw people wearing sneakers and t-shirst. I think they are ok as long the guy’s knees and shoulders are covered and they do give you a few minutes before they ask you to buy a cocktail. The minimum cover is about 300THB plus tax plus obligatory 10% service that would buy you coffee or bottle water. So you might as well order a beer for about the same price.
Once again I forgot to look at the menu of the Restaurant Sirocco, which is mentioned in different articles but I don’t think it has any Michelin stars…Any way…the place is a bit touristic because it relation to the movie but definitely one of the most dramatic views of Bangkok. The use of tripod is strickly prohibited and all these images were taken at high iso and handheld but I didn’t care. I was taking my last look at Bagkok and I was happy! Here is a link to Lebua Sky
