Well, we've arrived in Bangkok after a long time travelling. Firstly Anton's wheel broke at Bretonside Bus Station and then he became very travel sick on the coach. We managed to find a trolley with wheels to attach to his case at the airport, so all was ok in the end.
It took us about 2 hours to find our way out of Bangkok airport to the sky train (a bit like London underground). From the sky train we then had to get a taxi to our hostel and us not speaking Thai and the taxi drivers not speaking English, was not a good start. One helpful security man at the airport, translated our hostel name into Thai and we finally managed to get to our hostel.
Hostel is very nice - away from the hustle and bustle. We've booked to stay again tonight and then we're getting the night train to Surat Thani, followed by the boat to Koh Samui.
Today we have had a "fun" ride in a tuk tuk!! He kept wanting to take us to places other than the place we wanted! We've quickly learnt not to trust anyone as all they want to do is scam
you. We keep being told to go into tourist information places but these are scam places (it seems the tuk tuk driver got commission for taking us there!) Luckily we did not buy any train tickets from the "tourist information" centre and took ourselves to the train station. Even at the train station we were stopped by an official looking lady asking us what tickets we wanted - she then tried to send us back to the tourist information centre!!! Finally we booked our tickets in the train station for half the price we had previously been offered. The tuk tuk driver followed us into the train station as we hadn't finished our tour with him! We asked to go to China Town and he said it was closed, so he wanted to take us to a clothes factory!!! Luckily he stopped at lights and we quickly disembarked and threw 20baht at him and swiftly walked away. We have both decided that that was our last tuk tuk ride!!!!!!
We then decided that we would find Koh San Road as this would be more touristy. A nice old man in a shop, selling locks (as Anton's got opened by security
staff in the airport and not locked properly - we cannot get it shut now!) told us to get the 53 bus to Koh San Road and we found the bus stop and got the bus for 13p! We have had our feet nibbled by fish which was extremely weird but very nice and just had our first Thai meal - Pad Thai noodles - yum!!
Going to find the entertainment tonight - ping pong show here we come!!!
Lots of Love to you all xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
PS Barnaby Bear has had his passport stamped and is very much enjoying his trip; however, he is staying in tonight as he is a good Catholic boy ;-)
