Up at 8am after 11 hours of sleep and ready to go! The hotel included a buffet breakfast so I took advantage of that and filled up for the day. Had an omelet, toast and fruit before hitting the streets again. I tried to see the Grand Palace which on the map looked close (and I knew we would see it on our sightseeing tour) but I wanted to get a sneak peek. I walked for ages towards it, realized it was almost impossible to cross the highways surrounding the palace but finally found a route. It was so hot and sweaty, I couldn’t believe it. I got close to the palace but the huge wall surrounding it prevented me from seeing much. Walked back to my hotel area. Found it odd to pull out my camera and take pictures. Nobody else seems to be taking random pictures so I only took a few trying not to look so obvious. I then bought myself a comfy over the shoulder purse and some cheapy sunglasses (which were needed as I forgot my cheap ones at home). I decided to take advantage of the hotel pool and sure glad I did! It was beautiful! I was just going to cool off quickly but loved it so much. I had a “mom” moment wishing she were there with me to enjoy it. Went for lunch across the street at a cool café with free Wifi. Then I went back to Khao San and got a fish foot spa massage for 15 minutes. It was so ticklish I could hardly take it. I got used to it. Then back to Rambuttri as it was quitter and chilled out so I found a cheap spot with nice street side chairs and got a leg-foot massage for ½ hour. Luvin that you can walk around with beer here everywhere! You can just sit and drink a bottle of beer while getting your street side massage. Came back to the pool for another swim, then got showered and ready for my 6pm pre-departure meeting with the Contiki TM. I still don’t have a roommate so I went to the meeting alone. Like a geek, first one there and met Emmo, our TM. My first impression is that he seemed older then I had expected and as he started talking he seemed wiser and experienced then any other TM I’ve had before with 6 years of experience under his belt. After the meeting and sorting out our passport details, insurance info, optional excursion payments, we then socialized and I met people and we ate dinner across the street as a large group. The Pad Thai was gross so I didn’t finish it. Had 1 beer there, then headed to another bar called 999 West. Shared a pitcher of beer with a guy named Mark from Adelaide. He was the first person I had a more in depth conversation with. Also chatted lots with Steve from NY who is actually doing the whole 25 day tour with me as most others are just doing the 14 day Asian Adventure. A few people then went on from that bar to the Ping Ping show which I had never heard of before but sounds just like an Amsterdam sex show! It was 11pm so I headed back to the hotel and my roomie had made it! Michelle from Melbourne! She had missed her departure flight and was still a little freaked out by the whole ordeal. I tried to catch her up on what she had missed and what she needed to know for tomorrow.
