He gave us MAD luck!
18 hours of flying later, we finally made it to Bangkok. In all honesty, the flight was not that bad, in fact we managed to get some pretty good sleep on both flights despite a packed plane and multiple babies on board (thank you Xanax!). After we gathered our bags and hired a taxi to Khao San Road (the neighborhood we were looking to stay in, also nicknamed "backpacker's ghetto), it was clear to both of us that Bangkok was nothing like we've ever seen before. Keep in mind, it was about 1:30am when we finally hopped in a cab, so the city was moreorless asleep, but it was still crazy to see beautiful temples amongst decaying buildings and pictures of the Thai king EVERYWHERE!

When we got to Khao San Road, it kind of reminded me of Tijuauna's Revolution Drive meets New Orlean's Bourban street, except with tons of Thai people. Buildings looked half done and there were street food stalls and drunk people all over the place. After stopping at about 8 different guesthouses (hostiles, same thing basically), we finally found a room at Sitdhi Guesthouse. Our room doesn't have a window, but we only paid 500 baht

(about 16 or 17 dollars) and we got a semi-soft queen bed with air-condition, a fan and hot water. Sweeeeeeet. We wandered into the streets for an hour and a half or so, drank like 3 large Chang Beers (6.4% and only $1.75!). Before we hit the hay we noticed a few things. It's hot here, there's wild dogs all over the place (the laziest dogs you'll ever see), and wild tail-less cats, and really brave rats that the cats are afraid of, and roosters in trees, and it kind of stinks like sewer, and I think we are completely afraid and in love with this place. Goodnight. C will take over now.

So what can I say about Bangkok, besides it's everything and nothing you'd expect...taxi cabs in colors any nail salon in los angeles would be jealous of, dirty, grimy, people watching like no other; every language, age, color and creed can be seen walking down our Guest house street at all hours of the night and the food, the food is just delicious. I think at first, we both found ourselves a bit tired and thus really overwhelmed at what we had been dropped into. But here we are, at the finish of day two, (which to us feels more like a week!) rested and better adjusted and ready to take this trip by the horns! We have about a week left in Thailand which, and thanks to Jack at T.A.T. will involve lots of travel (by night train, how fun!) north to the more ancient parts of Thailand. Temples guarded by monkeys, waterfalls, and history you can only dream of in America. I guess for now, I will leave it at that...or better yet:

To Be Continued...

We have only just begun; goodnight friends.
