BANGKOK. Hot and steamy!

Bangkok is much as we left, busy, hot full of traffic and people; only this time it is very humid too. This time we are staying in Banglamphoo which is the old town area near the river, We have a really nice hotel called the Navalai River Resort and really spookily, it is right next to the river boat pier where we got off last year when we went looking for the Khoasan Rd., so we knew exactly where we were.
We found the Khoasan Rd proper only to be stranded for an hour or so in a downpour, this being the wet season. Sad that we are, we really like the place, full of cheap booze, food and tat! Ate, drank but declined the fake arm or leg tattoos (picture this if you can........ you wear a flesh coloured, stockingette sleeve decorated with tatoos), or the flip top lighter, slightly greater in size than your Lonely Planet Guide!

Friday we spent on the river with a tourist day ticket but got stranded half way in a thunderstorm which appeared in minutes and swamped the whole area for half an hour. That

Wedding photo opportunity
put paid to the videoing and photography on the way back up the river because they had pulled down the plastic covers on the boats

On Saturday we walked .......to Wat Benchamabophit (the Marble Temple). Most modern of the temples only finished in 1911 and disconcertingly, has walls decorated with handmade wallpaper and also sports several grandfather clocks???? Seems to be political rallies going on in some of the parks which look friendly enough at the moment but the police are out in force on the major road junctions around, so maybe they are expecting something?

Hope to see the Villa v Chelsea match in a bit then its back home to pack. Have to be up at 4.00am tomorrow for the flight to Yangon. You probably won hear from us until we leave Myanmar so watch out for us in about 3 weeks.
