Covered
Legs and shoulders had to be covered. It was sweltering hot Many things were experienced in Bangkok Thailand. I arrived exhausted after a long day of travel. My atm card didnt work, my sim card didnt work and I was in a horrible mood. Alas I find a way to get some cash and make it to my hostel at around 10:00pm. Some English guys were getting ready to head to a little food market for some dinner. I ate my meal on the plane so I went just to see my first glimpse of Bangkok street life. One guy ordered snake heads and the others just got regular noodles. They all start talking about their prostitutes they had been getting. When I heard about the prostitution in Thailand I figured there would be one or two guys in my dorm that would have gotten one but EVERY SINGLE GUY in my room had gotten at least one. Sometimes two. Sometimes three. I was taken aback for sure. These are nice normal english chaps, most with girlfriends back home. Then I look up and a guy running to the side of the market to vomit. So THAT was my first impression of Thailand. Needless to say I was a little put off.
Monk
On a palm pilot. LOL In the morning a few guys from the hostel and I took a taxi to the Grand Palace. The Grand Palace was majestic. Gleaming gold detailed with jewels. We saw the Emerald Buddha then went on to see the biggest Reclining Buddha in the world. He was humongous. A guy named Craig and I were the ones that made it thru the whole day. We ended up at this English/Thai really nice restaurant to watch the sunset. I decided to go all out and have Rack of Lamb with some veggies and potato, a few cosmos and spring rolls for an appetizer. I ended up spending what most Thai people make in a week but it was delicious and I deserved it after my bad evening the day before. We then headed to Ko San Road, the infamous backpackers street as seen on The Beach. I saw another dress I just HAD to have. This one though was only 10 USD. It is gorgeous and I love it. We laid down on the side of the street to get half hour foot massages for only 4 USD then called it a night.
Yesterday I was lazy as can be. Watched
the movie Bedtime Stories with Adam Sandler with some english guys and a fellow American. The theatre was uber fancy and in an uber fancy mall. When you walk around dirty city streets and honking traffic, the quiet huge theatre with reclining seats was a nice change. Went back to Ko San Road with the American, had some noodles and another foot massage then off to the biggest sight I just "had to see" before I left Bangkok. A street called Soi Cow Boy. A street filled with every sort of debauchery you can think of. Ordinarily I would never go to a place like this but this is a rite of passage in Thailand apparently so I went. An elephant was the first thing we saw walking down the street. Lots of girls in scandelous outfits with signs saying "90 baht shots of tequila" (about 3 USD) We went into a normal bar then saw the owner of our hostel with a couple other backpackers he directed us to one of the bars. This bar I am not even going to talk about considering my mommy and daddy are reading this (Hi Mom and Dad) but it was ......interesting.
I lasted about an hour and 3 bars for about 15 minutes each. The boys , of course, wanted to stay out but one was nice enough to escort me safely thru the women of the night back to my dorm room.
Reflections on Bangkok: Soi Cow Boy was a sad place to be. Without those nice English, American, Japanese, Australian, and assorted other countries men there would be no prostitution trade. They keep it going. One of the guys had a girl say she was "in love" with him. She was 18 desperate for an escape. Just starting out in the trade from the impression he got. Its a sad world they exist in but they make the money they need to survive.
The city itself can be fun. Clothes, purses, shoes, food..its all cheap and good. Its going to be really hard not going on a massive shopping spree. Im not even a big shopper but I have a weakness for cute dresses (obviously) so we will see how I handle myself.
The temples are spectacular. I really appreciate the Buddhist religion. Its a beautiful, peaceful thing.
Massages ROCK!!!!!!!
Now Im at the airport about to head to
The were angry
They had to hold that thing up for 250 years Koh Samui. My island life begins. Thank goodness. Miss you Marc and Ashley and of course my friends/family back home. Especially Abby, Jenny, my mommy and daddy and John.
Cheers

Trip of a lifetime
Jenny! Looks like you are having the trip of a lifetime! Try to make it to the countryside if possible. Eat eat eat (and yogurt cuts the burn). I really enjoy your updates!
