First full day in Bangkok has come and gone. It's much different with the sun out....you can see the smog much better now. The breakfast was free in the hotel and was really really good. There's pretty much everything you can imagine including goat blood soup and stir fry chicken. I went to see the the Grand Palace today and the largest gold plated Budda statue. Both were very impressive. The Grand Palace is a very ornate mini-city behind walls. Most all the buildings are off limits to visitors but we could walk into a couple. Pretty much gold plated on the inside and outside. Reminds me of Disney World with an Asian twist with all the tourists. There are many monks on the grounds giving prayer. It's a very quite and peaceful place. There's also a dress code and you have to take your shoes off to go inside some of the temples. Never saw so many people in dyer need of pedicures. The big standing Budda was....well big. For a small fee, you can buy gold like filament then rub it on certain statues and say a prayer. I didn't do any gold rubbing but did buy some insense, candle and flower and said a prayer....when in Rome.
Tonight I had barbaqued shrimp...the size of small lobster and a rice and red curry dish.... it was great. I've also learned that these tut tut....or is it tuk tuk's not all have the same price. I'm now have a good feel if I'm being ripped off. One minute you're paying a buck to get across town, the next you are charged a buck fifty. Well, that's about it....I'm headed for bed.
