day 1
before we leave After doing our last minute packing, on 3 July, my family and I set off to Singapore Budget Terminal to prepare to fly to Bangkok. We arrived at Budget Terminal and had lunch at HANS, all excited at our first ever family trip. In high spirits, I was surprised to receive a call to hear that adel, andy and stephanie were coming to send us off.
The time came and we had to go in to board the plane. We said our last goodbyes to my friends and went inside the shopping area.
After the security scanning of our bodies and bags, my mom kept laughing at how the officer used the metal detector to scan her body! I believe that was her very first experience of that sort.
We finally arrived in Thailand Suvarnabhumi Airport at about 2000hr, half hour later than scheduled. Clearance was smooth but we were further delayed by the agency van's late arrival to pick us up from the airport to our hotel.
The brief itenary of the trip was:
1st day -
(night) Suan Lum Night Bazaar and Beer Garden to shop and eat
day 1
packing as a family 2nd day -
Sumptous breakfast buffet at hotel
Siam Square
Pratunam Wholesale Mall. Cheap jeans found here.
84th floor of Baiyoke Sky Hotel. This is some very touristy thing to do, go to the HIGHEST building in the city , which my brother did not believe in, so you will not see him in those Baiyoke Sky Hotel touristy photos.
Pratunam Market. This place is crazy, with rows and rows and rows of AIR CONDITIONED shops. Singaporeans will love it here.
Platinum Mall
Foot Massage. The aunties who do Foot Massage in Thailand are scary. They will massage you up to your groin. I think thats a standard procedure, but its scary, considered the parlour that we went was not sleazy at all.
Supper at Khao San backpackers haven and night life street. Khao San is a superb place. You can do dreadlocks there, eat, drink, shop, see tonnes of backpackers, see elephants etc.
3rd day -
Did a whole lot of spastic photos in the hotel room with my sister and brother. (You will see in the photos) Chatuchat Weekend Market, which my mom hates because
day 1
pack pack! its too hot and cramped.
JJ Mall (tourist trap). We told the tuktuk driver to bring us to Chatuchat Weekend Market and he brought us to JJ Mall and lied to us that it is the NEW CHATUCHAT. We believed for awhile (for about 30 minutes), until my bro and I SAW CHATUCHAT WEEKEND MARKET just outside one of the exits of JJ Mall....we were like.....
Chatuchat Weekend Market. My mom hates this place because it is extremely hot and cramped. I went in April too and I remembered Luwei, KS, Shuen, Xuanwen, Sean and I were FORCED to stop shopping here because it was so hot. We just gave up. And the irony thing was KS and I saw some shops selling scarves, jackets in that crappy weather.
Platinum Mall. We kept going back to Platinum Mall because there was air con......and being idiotic Singaporeans.....yea..so..
Patpong sex district for steamboat and Naraya Bag Shop,
4th day -
Went to Chao Phraya. For ignorant people, Chao Phraya is a river that runs through Bangkok, and which has the famous floating market, which I did not go, because its a tourist trap.
day 1
leaving for the airport We took the cheapest ferry service, which the locals use to travel, out of the many many many tourist trap and packages ferry services that were being offered to us. We paid 17baht for each person and were on our way down the river. We alighted at some random stop along the river and FOUND a street market! We had swensens, (I strongly believe in having MINIMAL Americanized food in a country like Thailand) and shopped, and took a ferry back. On the way back to the first stop along the river, my brother slept.....as the tour guide on the ferry tried desperately to grab our attention. You must see the photos along the river!
MBK Shopping Mall for TEPPANYAKI. For everyone who loves Japanese food, YOU MUST GO TO THIS RESTAURANT for TEPPANYAKI. The problem is I do not remember which floor or the name of the restaurant. You can look at the photos. LOL. I can bring you there though, if I am at MBK.
Khao San. We went to Khao San to shop again, because my brother was quite shocked that he has not bought alot of tee-shirts so far. We had supper there, and
day 1
my sis and i took some mugshots of ourselves to proof to ourselves that we look alike and to entertain ourselves. We kept laughing and laughing throughout the night. I had NEVER seen my MOM SO HAPPY AND CRAZY BEFORE. WOW. Oh and I changed teeshirt along the way, and touched an elephant!
5th day -
Platinum Mall again. For shopping and lunch.
Chinatown. We had SHARK'S FIN AND BIRD'S NEST at this restaurant called Lao Li. Though a bit expensive in terms of Thai price, it was delicious! In Chinatown, we were trapped for 20minutes because of traffic jams and no cabs were running through Chinatown. We were so desperate, we took a tuktuk though it was drizzling slightly.
CAMERE LOW BATT. -_-
6th day -
MBK Shopping Mall. Went to this Marche styled restaurant which must have been a tourist trap because there were hundreds of patrons there, but every patron was either from America, Europe, Japan, China or Singapore. . .
BACK HOME AT 2300HR.
The photos will speak it all.
Some random stuff
My mom
day 1
on the cab, my mon and sis is a good photographer. The photos without her, but with me, my sis and bro inside are taken by her. Some photos of ME, are taken by her too.
My bro is a shopping freak too. He bought at least 20 teeshirts, jeans, berms all together. At least.
My mom said one thing good about holiday, as all mothers would agree, is that she does not have to do HOUSEWORK!
We tipped the chambermaids 40 baht per day for cleaning our rooms, and we tipped the bell boys and people who opened our car doors. We also tipped the cab drivers, tuktuk drivers. For tips, we might have spent a total of 950 baht plus plus. In Thai VALUE, that would be about 30 meals. I leanrt that to tip the chambermaids, we put the money on the pillow. I DID NOT KNOW THAT. I only tipped dirvers prior to this.
