Bangkok Arrived at the southern bus terminal again and was feeling a little apprehensive about catching a cab. I have heard so many horror stories!!!
When you arrive here you need to walk around to the left of the building, you will see a sign that has Taxi on it.
You walk across the crossing and you will see hordes of people standing around. These are TOUTS and the only they care about is getting your money.
Don't stop and talk to them as I did, as I slowly discovered these are not the taxi drivers of all the cars I can see ahead of me. They are playing dumb like they had no idea where I was going. Even though I had everything written out in Thai this time.
Another guy luckily came barging through and saved me lol
So when you see all these people, keep walking around to your right. Just follow the barricades till you get to the end. This is the start of the taxi cue.
There is another guy there; he will summons a taxi driver for you. I enquired about the meter to this guy and he said 'no worry, all must use
Centre Point Apartment Petchiburi
The TV & DVD player ... oh and some where to hook up my laptop for the free broadband!! meter'. And guess what?!?! He did!! I didn't have to ask the meter when straight on. I had no problems what so ever.
Arrived at the
Centre point Apartments Petriburi - Check in was very fast, the lobby is very nicely decorated and I almost felt to shabby to be in such a nice place.
They treated me equal to the other more poshy people there and took me to my room in a very timely manner.
OMG the room!!!
It was amazing!!! I can't find the words to describe it - just have a look at the pics.
I don't get to stay in places like this very often and when you consider I only paid $48AUD per night that’s not to bad at all!!! For a place like this in Sydney you would easily pay over $300 per night!!
Buffet breakfast on day 1 wasn't real good, but that was because I left it until 20 minutes before cut off lol
There was hardly anything left. But on Day 2 the breakfast I found was very good. Lots of variety and most importantly there was
BACON!! hehehe
Tour with Tong What everyone has said in
the forums about this lady is oh so very true!!! She is so lovely, kind, funny and understanding!!!
I had an awesome time with Tong and it’s a day I will never forget. I'm sure I have a friend forever.
She took me on a sightseeing drive around Bangkok and to the outer suburbs.
We made it to the floating markets where I had an awesome time. She took me further out into the canals where people live. It was so quite, relaxing, beautiful and quite moving too.
All the dogs in the area know Tong very well and they would line up along the canal waiting for her. She would throw food up onto the edge so the dogs could get a feed. Even the stuff covered in chilli! these dogs are amazing!
They love her, like everyone else!!!
Tong also took me to a wood carving place and where they paint the bone china for the Royal family. To see these people painting these tiny cups with such fine detail was amazing! I wish I had half their talent. I would love to go back there one day and actually place an order. This Tong told me can
take up to 4 - 6 months and cost a fair bit. But hey, you get what you pay for.... a piece of artwork!
On the way back to my hotel we decided we would try and go see the Grand Palace. Unfortunately we could not get a parking spot anywhere.
So she took me to this "famous" Thai Restaurant. Tong couldn't understand why all the tourists loved it. I think we found out why.
In my opinion (well this is how it looked to me!) - they got better treatment!!!
I couldn't understand what this lady was saying to Tong as we ordered, but her tone was - lets say, not very pleasing to the ear. She sounded cranky and she really couldn't be bothered.
Then in comes 3 americian tourist who politely sucked up to her... well, they got the best food ever.
I on the other hand couldn't eat my Pad Thai!!!! Yeah, I know!!! Who in the hell can never eat their Pad Thai??!!
It was disgusting!!! It tasted like a whole lime or lemon had been squeezed into it.
Shopping Centres I took the BTS over to Siam. I got off and went
straight to the Siam Discovery centre. WOW!! The shopping centres here were amazing!
I couldn't afford to buy anything here, but spend ages just wandering around gazing at all the things in the windows.
Saw this fascinating shop that sold all gift ideas, I could have gone nuts buying stuff in there.
And the biggest bookstore I have ever seen!!!
I made my way through 2 more shopping centres…destination - MBK.
I have heard everyone just rave about this place.
I don’t know if I found the wrong place but I couldn’t wait to get out of there. The only thing I enjoyed about MBK other than leaving was the big ice-cream parlour!!!
I just didn’t enjoy the madness off it. I was expecting something else and that was my problem.
I wasn’t expecting masses of smaller ‘stall’ shops and hundreds and hundreds of mobile phone stores…. I was expecting a cheaper version I guess of the Siam centre or something similar.
Oh well….its not for everyone!
