Not as loud as a "TenSue" gig !! Hi everyone, well I'm finally off and running . I had a very restless night's sleep in Sydney because I was worried that I'd sleep through the alarm that was set for 5:30am ! Anyway, I didn't sleep through it and check in and security at the airport both went very smoothly. The airport was really busy, there were lots of student groups going off overseas. I was glad that I'd joined the Priority Pass group as that allowed me to escape the noisy crowd. I went to the United Airlines Red Carpet Lounge and boy was that heaven, as there were only 2 guests, myself and another lady. It was so quiet !
I was amazed at how calm and relaxed I felt given that I was a bundle of nerves for the 2-3 weeks before I left.
The service on Thai Airways was great, they really put Qantas to shame. The flight was pretty good until we flew over the top of Australia and then into Asia, turbulence galore, that combined with the guy behind me pushing on his inflight entertainment system continuously didn't help the motion sickness feeling coming in waves. Anyway, I managed to keep it at

Very agile and elegant !! bay and so all in all the flight was a success!!
I arrived at the Baiyoke Suite around 6pm and after I settled in I went out to walk around the Paratunam Market area which I'm familiar with after being here twice before. The place is always buzzing with activity. Boy was it humid though !!! I was getting quite hungry and thought that this was as good a time as any to have my first meal alone as a single traveller. I finally chose to eat at "Big Jim's" and there were so many people eating alone that I didn't feel out of place. Big Jim's is one step up from street food, a family business, with kids as young as 11 or 12 taking people's orders. There was even a toddler running around picking up trays, but where was "Big Jim"? He was sitting at the cash register of course! I ordered Garlic and Pepper seafood and a seafood fried rice The food was so tasty, but my eyes were bigger than my belly and I couldn't finish it. With 2 soft drinks it only cost 260 TBhat, which is about $9 . All of a sudden I

This looked very dangerous! heard a man shouting "Come on Madame, Come on Madame" but was out of eyesight of the entrance and so couldn't see anything. Next minute a woman sitting in front of me got up and walked to the doorway and all of a sudden I saw an elephant sticking it's trunk through the entrance. The man had been calling the customers to buy food from him to feed the elephant. That's the first time I'd seen that before and I'd left my damn camera at the hotel !!
Today's Friday, and I met up with my friend Sue who lives in Melbourne. Her and her husband Bob are here in Bangkok learning about gems. Had a great day and evening with them and will tell you about that tomorrow after I get back fromm my tour of the River Kwai. I"ll also add photos taken at dinner tonight.
Bye till next time

Hi again, I thought I'd edit this entry before I added the next one. I had a great day with Sue just meandering around window shopping. We stopped to eat lunch at Pantip Plaza ,
Another dance
These girls are so flexible - look at their hands the IT mall where you can get anything for a PC, Mac , Mobile phone etc etc. The place was buzzing with people trying to get you to buy fake DVD's. I looked for the woman who we bought some from last trip. She was pleased that I remembered her even though she had moved stalls. This lady guarantees that if the DVD doesn't work you can take it back to her, even after you have flown home and then return some time later.
Sue and I then met up with Bob, and we went for a stroll around Patpong Night Markets. This market is located in a somewhat seedy area, and its so sad to see all the young women applying their make up etc outside a bar. You just know that they are going to be next act in the bar.
We came away from there not spending anything as they didn't sell anything different to what they sell in the market area outside my hotel.
The three of us decided to eat at the Silom Village Cultural Centre. The food was great - I even ate Ox tongue stew !!
There was free entertainment and I have posted some photos for that.
I had a great day and night with Sue and Bob - two great people that I rarely get to spend time with because we live in different cities.
Signing off now, I will post the River Kwai trip tomorrow.
