Max feeding elephants
Not only do they eat bananas, but they will eat whole coconuts too. I know it's only a few days since the last blog posting, but we got some good pictures that I thought I would share. We went to Dream World on Saturday and Max had a great time. It was his first amusement park experience. It was not really like Disney World - I would say it was more like a lower end Asian version of Great America, but it still had a lot of stuff for Max to do. One thing you have to get used to here is that the safety standards are definitely not those of the U.S. For example, there were a number of rides for small children to get on by themselves that did not have seat belts and I just couldn't bring myself to let Max go on those, although there are times when we have to ride in taxis that don't have seat belts either (Grandparents - ignore this section). However, other expat families who have been here for a while get in and out of cars without seat belts for their children with ease. I don't know that I will ever be totally comfortable with it and take public transport or walk when I
Potty signs at Dream World
This was hilarious. Every time there was a bathroom, there would be one of these little porcelain characters squatting on a toilet. Pretty gross! have Max with me whenever I can, but the good news (if it can be called good news) is that traffic is usually so slow here that the accidents wouldn't have the same impact as on the Washington beltway.
The absolute highlight of Dream World for Max was feeding the elephants bananas. At first he was very scared and didn't want to do it, but after he watched his dad feed the elephants, he decided that he could do it too. Then he was very excited and couldn't stop talking about it. I post some of those pictures here. One of the funny things that happened was while Jim was waiting in line with a friend to drive Go-Karts (which go about 50 miles an hour at Dream World - a heck of a lot faster than the U.S.). I was waiting in the shade with another friend under a water mister that they have set up all over the park. There was this Asian techno music blasting and Max decided to get up and dance, much to the amusement of the onlookers. He was dancing like crazy - like a little Michael Jackson - in the middle of
Train at Dream World
Max and mommy on the train - one of the few safe rides at Dream World. this wide circle where everyone was waiting in line. We were joking that we should charge money to watch the little "farang" (Thai word for white Westerner) dance. Don't know where he came up with his moves.
I explored the market behind the Embassy today and found a Winnie the Pooh bed spread for Max for $3. Another example of the bargains to be had here. Don't know how long the thing will last, but for $3, who cares?
This coming Friday is the Queen's birthday (of Thailand) and is a national holiday here. It is also considered to be Mother's Day in Thailand. I'm trying to convince Jim that I should get another mother's day this year, but he's not buying it so far. However, the Embassy is closed so he gets a 3 day weekend. We had hoped to get out of town, but everything was already booked and traffic is insane on a holiday weekend, so we have decided to hang out in Bangkok and explore here instead.
Take care!
Maddy

Love the photos
Max looks like he is having the time of his life--so do you! I'm with you on the Second Mother's Day--in my view, every day should be mother's day. Maddy, if you are a confirmed shopping addict, a Winnie the Pooh bedspread ain't gonna do it for you. So I hope your next report focusses on good deals on clothes and jewelry!! Lots of love to you, Jim and Max, Eleanor
