I arrived early in the morning and my host, Joice, was at work. She told me to go to a shopping mall called Rama XI. I went to the Starbucks, because I know there's free WiFi, so I could let her know I made it. She told me she could be there around 14:00. It was nice actually to have some time. I could write my diary and I called my sister and Pien. It's always nice to see them. I told them I was so happy when I arrived here. Delhi was such a dirty city in compare to Bangkok. Also the traffic is ok. To be honest, I didn't know they drove on the left side here as well.
When Joice picked me up, we went to her condo first. It's a really nice and clean place. She never told me that her residence had a swimming pool, so it was a really nice surprise when she told me we could go for a swim! It was very hot outside.
Later, we met up with some other couchsurfers for a drink at a rooftop bar. It was a nice place with a nice view over the city.
Later, we went to Khao San road. This was a bit too crazy for me. Bars with loud music, cheap alcohol and many many drunken tourists. I didn't really want to be there, but I also didn't want to be a party killer so I followed the rest. You could buy scorpions on a stick or fried larves and grasshoppers. One of the guys bought some larves, but I'm really not brave enough to try those kind of things, yuk! After a while I asked Joice if we could go home. I was tired anyway from the flight and wanted to get some sleep.
The next day we took the boat to the centre. Those boats are just like public transport. They go through the channels in the city and take you from A to B really quick and it's super cheap. Before going to work, we went to this big mall called Terminal 21. It was decorated differently on every floor. Every floor represented another country. It looked really nice. The top floor, that had a small version of San Francisco's Golden Gate bridge, also had a really big food court. At the entrance you put money on
a card and inside you can go to many different counters using that card. We had a nice breakfast and coconut ice cream in a coconut with coconut jelly. Yes, I do love desserts. After this we continued.
Joice had a meeting with a client for work, but she took me with her. I mentioned that I wrote a blog, so she suggested I could join her to this working space and work on it. I thought it was a good idea. The place we went is made for freelancers and digital nomads, but really just anyone who wants to use WiFi can come in. You just pay a fixed amount and you can stay all day. There's free water, thea and coffee and there are computers you can use. you could also take a break and play board games or jump on trampolines. It looked very Google haha.
When we both finished working, we went to a big mall to meet up with 2 friends of her. Meanwhile we were waiting for them, we walked through the mall. There was a pet market going on. You could buy lots of silly things for your pet, but also pets
itself. There were the "normal" pets, like cats, dogs and rabbits. But there were also hedgehogs, mini pigs, boa's, parrots and even swans. You could take a picture with owls or you could have a drink in a so-called cat bar (there are cats inside the bar and you can pet them while having your drink).
When her friends arrived, we went to the evening market. There were lots of old cars, vespa's and a few helicopters too. It was a little bit as if we were walking on the set of Cars. Only Lightning McQueen was missing. We had some nice street food. Although it was hard for me to find something. Almost all stands sold food with seafood or pork in it. I can eat a lot, but exactly those things I really don't like. Eventually I found some dumplings and they were pretty good. We strolled around the market for a while and laughed at some funny things you could buy. Then it was time to go home.
The following day, Joice had to work at her office, so we took the boat and the metro together. We said goodbye when she had to get
off the metro and I went to the bus station to catch the bus to Ayutthaya.
I'll go to the north of Thailand, then move down from Laos to Cambodia and then enter Thailand again to go south. I will pass Bangkok again and Joice told me I could stay with her again, so I will probably see her again in a few weeks.
