We made it to Bangkok! Origionally I wasn't going to do a blog for this trip because I just wanted to relax and not have to write anything but there's so much stuff we've seen so far that I really wanted to share, plus I like reading back on what we've done. We arrived in Bangkok on the Thursday night, took a taxi to our hotel and then went straight to bed as it was about 10.30pm and we were tired from our flight. Before we got into bed though we had to take take off these beautiful looking towel swans with petals everywhere which they had made for us. We also had a laugh at our toilet which had many different options including an enema and a feminine wash (which we didn't try by the way)! For our first full day in Bangkok we started with the buffet breakfast at the hotel. It included a varitey of foods such as pad thai, dumplings, fruit and pastries which filled us up for most of the day. We then went out to get Blair's suits ordered. They picked us up and took us to the tailor shop where we decided the fabric
and type of suits Blair wanted. Afterwards we checked out the massive shopping malls nearby where Blair bought some new togs. We then walked all the way back to our hotel in the hot heat which took about 40mins. We could have caught a taxi but it was nice to walk around after our previous day flying. We then went to have our first thai massage back at our hotel. It was so good, but it's not like your usual swedish relaxing massage where you almost fall asleep. A thai massage means they walk on you (gently) and stretch you and move you around, but it's still kind of relaxing, just a bit different. After that we went to a night market near us where I bartered for some long thai market pants for the temples and we bought some dinner nearby. We were both pretty tired by this point so we decided to walk back to the hotel to get some sleep. Bangkok definitely comes alive at night time, and although we were nanas and went to bed early most nights, we caught a glimpse of what it was like. There's so much light, music and street food eveywhere
you go!
The next day we decided to walk to the big local park which is about 30mins from where we were staying. We walked past some old gym equipment in the park and and also some dinosaurs....yes dinosaurs! They were doing an educational dinosaur thing for the kids in the park (which Blair and I thought was pretty cool for us big kids too!). We then went to the mall to get us some breakfast.... but we ended getting lost on the way! Luckily it was day time and we found our way back but the streets we went down were looking more and more dodgy as we walked further from the main road, and the locals were starting to look surprised to see us which meant we'd definitely gone too far! Anyway we got to the mall and had some brunch then walked back to the hotel to have a shower as blair had another fitting at 1pm for his suits. After that we didn't do much, just had another massage and chilled at the hotel.
The next day we had a big day as we went on a tour to Ayutthaya where we saw beautiful
Buddhist temples, a palace and some statues. At the end of the day we travelled by boat back to the city centre (which included a buffet lunch). I'll attach some pictures so that you can see what we saw on the tour.
For our last full day in bankok we visited the Grand Palace and saw the emerald and reclining Buddha. We also had the best lunch we've had near here and then visited the flower market in the afternoon. We had been outside all day and I think I may have overheated as I started feeling faint and struggled to walk. Thankfully we found a taxi and we went back to the hotel for some rest (and maybe another massage).
Overall we liked Bangkok, it was completely different from what we are used to. Next stop Railay beach for some R&R!
