Today, we had time for a little "sleep in" we awoke at 7am, wishing I could have slept some more, Clint having his man cold made him snore so bad at night, if it wasn't snoring, it was coughing!! He went on and on, driving me nuts. We showered and had breakfast, and we're ready for our 9am collection by Singing and Sky who were picking us up to take us out for the day. We took the metro to Taipei Zoo, although we weren't going to the zoo, Sky took me in so I could buy some souvenirs and then we walked to the Gondolas, a short walk from the zoo. Next we lined up to buy tickets for the Maokong Gondola, and we decided we would get a Gondola with a clear floor, Singing was mortified!! Away we went and soon we realised how high this journey was going to take us,the view was spectacular but would have been even better had it been clear. The journey took close to half an hour and along the way, there were different stops you could get off at but we went right to the top, a total distance of
4033metres long. Once there we walked around observing the view and walked past many cafés and tea houses, so many around this area. We walked back to the entrance of the Gondolas but stopped off to buy a Taiwanese ice cream spring roll, which was amazing, it had peanut brittle, 1 scoop Taro ice cream, 1 scoop pineapple ice cream and then coriander was added then rolled into a spring roll. It cost 40NTD which is about $1.80 approx cheap and very well worth it. Back on the Gondola for the downward journey, it was very peaceful looking at the view whilst listening to the wind and slightly swaying in the wind. We were met at the exit by Chin who came to pick us up so we could go to the Taipei 101 building where we met up with Chin's family and had lunch at a very famous Dumpling restaurant. This is where there were many workers all very busy making hundreds of dumplings for instant cooking and devouring!! Food here was amazing, once again, our table was so full of many different foods, all of which were really nice, and a constant flow of tea!!
We were taken
after lunch to the entrance of the 101 tour and then we said Goodbye to Singing, Sky, Chin and all of his family, as they were not going to the top. The elevator travels 1.010metres/min, just 37 seconds to get to the 89th floor, at 391.8metres, then still 12 more floors above! We spent probably an hour and a half wandering around looking at the view, listening to the audio and just taking photos and selfies!! We took the lift down to the bottom, where there were 5 floors of shopping, but we only meandered through here as we took the elevators to the ground floor. Once out of the building, we headed for the metro, but took selfies with the 101 building in the background as this building is an amazing skyscraper!!
Back on the metro to the hotel, we did a quick change and then we caught another train to the Shinlin Night Market where we were doing this market by ourselves, I was excited here as we were managing fine with the transport and communicating ok with people, food was still a bit tricky, but ok.This market was absolutely packed down the isles, we wandered along for
a while, bought Nikki's shoes( finally) bought ourselves some dinner from a little stall, which was very nice, the we even managed to find a Taiwanese Ice cream spring roll place and had another one!!! Oh well, that would be our last one, and we really enjoyed it! We stayed at the market till about 11.30pm then caught the train back to the hotel for a nightcap before collapsing into bed after such a fantastic day!
