Well here goes entry no.2....finished an amazing tiny stint in Singapore which culminated in a Singapore sling cocktail 😊...Singapore food was amazing; I wish the deli could follow us around the world it was that good and cheap.

And thus onto Sri Lanka where the queue at the airport resembled the first page of a where's wally book where they make the first one nice and easy for you;me and Tamara standing out from the crowd quite markedly...so much so that numerous times we were asked whether we were sure we had tickets for the right flight. Still the plane ride was comfortable enough with more leg room than the previous and plenty of tea so I was contented.

Arrived at our hostel in Colombo very late, probably about midnight if not later but the beds had significantly more give than the Singaporese equivalent; however the sleeping bag liner was out as a precaution as I swear the sheets crawled at one time or the other. I feel Sri Lanka will be as close to the experience had in Africa last summer as its going to get on my travels with phone companies and advertising plastered everywhere and driving UNBELIEVABLY haphazard...I counted nine near misses in the last couple of days alone - but it's strange how it doesn't really bother you when you get used to it. Didn't spend too long in Colombo the next day as the leader of the opposition was arrested for trying to arrange a coup so did a Ross Kemp and scarpered at the sign of it 'kicking off'...well we went 20km up the road to Negombo which is only 3km away from the airport.

Yesterday and today we mooched through Negombo which strangely has a large number of towel hogging Germans, perhaps not so strange as it is a beach town. For lunch I tried a proper Sri Lankan prawn curry and I can admit it was the hottest curry I've ever experienced but in true British fashion it was shovelled down without so much as a sip of water...whether I may regret the choice later remains to be seen :S

Anyway due to the political situation we will be flying slightly earlier (tomorrow night) to Bangkok so I will go and saviour my last 24 hours in Sri Lanka, much love to you all and hope everyone is well back home...

Ciao for now, James xx

Postcard no1
Hi James, So glad you settled into the George Clooney 'Up In The Air' lifestyle of Executive lounges, first class lounges and frequent flyer mileage! Only 10 million miles to go now! Received your first postcard from Singapore - Shown to the family and it brought a tear to the eye from Charlie the cat...or was it his astigmatism! Also really pleased you are basking in sub-tropical weather...Mind you its pretty similar here...Suzanne is only wearing eight layers of thermals at the moment! I take it we might not get a postcard from Sri Lanka...they had possibly run out of them with the colourful attempted coup scene emblazoned on the front...Don't worry, send two from Bangkok and cross the name out on one...Suzanne won't notice at all! We hope that your next travel gives you slightly more legroom but that's highly unlikely isn't it - Hope there were no adverse effects after the curry...Remember us Kenny's have delicate stomachs at the best of time!...but if it has been ok, maybe you've discovered a cure for IBS! Looking forward to your next post on your blog....we are only replying to this to show how hi tech we are!...sorry....how hi tech i am!....Suzanne's reply is currently attached to the leg of a homing pigeon, so could be some time before you find out who has won Dancing on Ice, the latest sheep disease in Emmerdale and that Coronation Street has been cancelled and replaced by International Whippet Racing from Cleakheaton as a result of ITV cutbacks! Ciao for now...Arrivederci wherever you've just left! Stephen and Suzanne xxx
