So there's a specific bird I'm looking for this day, and I take a little dugout canoe across a shallow river, and start walking. First through the village, a scattering of concrete, mud and plywood and bamboo huts and houses, lots of palms everywhere, dirt paths going through people's gardens, everyone very friendly, we all say hello all day long. Then leaving the houses behind and into more serious jungle, real tropical rainforest. I'm following a river more or less and occasionally the path crosses it, a chance to get naked and find a rock pool in the rapids. After an hour I come into a bit of a clearing and a house straight out of hollywood's idea of a jungle retreat, on the river's edge, packed earth front yard, lots of shade, the word verdant ... read more

I was accompanied by a very proud poojari at the temple and showed me signs of the Hanuman's feet and the place where he rest after the battle. Poojari also took me to the palce where Sita had her bath and the place where she used to meditate. ... read more

Hello from Sri Lanka :-) Thank you all for the emails/messages, missing you all! First of all... Dean needs to get something off his chest! WALES! AGAIN....GLORIOUS WALES! Needless to say he is pretty chuffed with the result of the grand slam/6 nations! He say's Shane Williams is a legend, bring on the Aussies.... Right, anyway :-) Got into Sri Lanka just over a week ago. Started our journey in Negombo as we avoided Colombo partly because of the trouble and partly because I have had enough of the city scene. Our first night and we had rain, not just a bit of rain, but big fat tropical rain! So British weather suddenly doesn't seem so bad! Doesn't help that we have only come prepared for warmer climates! Although Silver Sands, our hotel, was cheap and ... read more
