today we played Trinity college at the Assegriya Stadium, a test match stadium. off to a bad start, the Trinity openers reached 80 for 1 of 6 overs, but with perseverance they were restricted to 178. \9note sarcasm) during this game we had examples of great running; whiting (run out 4) ritchie (black duck). some outstanding fielding (tom Owen). finally some great bowling; cave 4 over 3-58, the best figures of his life!!!!! then Fricker who went for 17 of his first over - more than his batting innings. Another cricket mentioning must go Bootstrap, his fielding was woefull, his attempted catch was an absolute howler and the his batting could only described as agricultural to say the least! the saying "act on what he says, not what he does!!" epitomises his coaching or poaching! Today started with the unsolved mystery of Will Ellwood's alarm simply not going off for the third time in a row! Despite his early morning drama and excuses, everyone seemed excited and fairly nervous for the first game, not really knowing what to expect. We arrived in the blistering heat and with an unfamiliar wicket knowing that a challenge was ahead. We lost the toss and got put into bat which proved to be a problem from the start with no one in the team getting past 20. A mention for Hugh Barron's gutsy innings batting or 16 overs with an injured finger, Tom Owen and Max Ritchie for showing good intent and it has to be said that Nic Scaglioni's 4* was nothing but courageous! However due to some decent bowling by St Thomas' and ... read more

we had our first training session on a sub continent wicket which was tough to get used to but i have to say i was very impressed with everyone's efforts today. Even though Mr. Nurton forgot that he was playing against 15 year old boys with his aggressive style of bowling with penetrating death stares and death defying pace. but at least he led by example, which cannot be said for Mr turner for his "fairy like" fielding, including a dropped catch and multiple miss fields..... which rubbed off on some others such as Scags and Edwards. talking of Scags; i am hugely disappointed with the little man's use of vocabulary as f-bombs were dropped on the tranquil Kandy! in the afternoon we visited a tea plantation with the fear of snakes and little to none ... read more

We all know that it was an early start for everyone but one 'fiery' character in particular continued his alternative nature wearing the wrong coloured trousers and he was also rather late. The on flight entertainment was somewhat bemusing for some. Firstly one of the recently appointed vice captains (Hugh Barron), after 10 solid hours of gamin on backgammon claimed that the they system was faulty and somewhat corrupt. Secondly the other vice captain (Oliver Sale) who was chosen for being a responsible member of the 4th Form lost his way with a fairly important item which he may not have realised is need to prevent his deportation back to England on arrival in Sri Lanka. Not once but twice he alerted an unnecessary panic upon himself and the rest of his team mates when he ... read more
