Some pics from our Tour, plus a few anecdotes from the past few weeks/months! It’s the little things! From the never ending power failures to the deaf man across the road smiling and giving me a wave when he goes to collect the water each day. The kids at the pool bowing at my feet after they have had a lesson and the ones that make sure they say thank you in English, because they can, or being called Aunty. These are all signs of respect and are quite moving. The coaches being comfortable with me at the pool and telling me what to do or playing jokes on me! (I do get my own back on them of course.) And just when you think you have it all sorted, something goes astray! Like yesterday, Bubba ... read more

Friday 8th - Tuesday 12th April We rose early for a van to the Hill Country to stay with Roy, the son of Nicky’s colleague Samuel. It was coming at 7, but arrived at 06:30 just as we were breakfasting, the first early thing since we got here! The driver was considerate and safe on the road although we were slightly put off him when after we stopped for breakfast (spicy hot egg Rotis which we were impressed with E finishing) he bought betel and spat regularly for the next hour. This turned to full disgust as over lunch he kept leaning into Nicky declaring “Madam this is the best food you will eat. You cannot buy in Hotel”. His mouth half full of partly chewed food and teeth red with the Betel, his fingers covered ... read more

Hello, right now I am writing from the most breathtaking, beautiful, peaceful little village you have ever seen. Its called Ella, and its in Sri Lanka, a small country right below India. We have flown here for 10 days (which means we have to pack in an entire country in just over a week) before we return to India to visit the north and finally visit the almighty rajasthan, the ganges river, and hopefully do some snowboarding up in kashmir!! supposably very similar to canada and considered india's paradise. anyways back to sri lanka, although very similar to india in pretty much everyway, we have noticed a few differences, although india is extremely beautiful, nothing can compete with the views and settings we have seen in sri lanka so far. the first night we were here ... read more

Hey everyone, happy new year to the Harding Clan (thankyou for our message), the Todd clan and all our other friends :) Well we have had a few adevnture since I last wrote. We have been all the way up Adams Peak and to Worlds end and are now in the lovely sleepy village of Ella (ella, ella, under my umbrella, ella, ella :)) and still aching. Adams peak was fantastic and well worth the getting up at 1.30 to leave at 2 to reach the top for sunrise. Anyone who is going to do it make sure you pack lots of extra layers and socks as it is freezing at the top waiting for the sunrise. We managed to do the 4800 steps in 3 hours which we were quite pleased with. The sunrise was ... read more

I just checked in to see if anyone had given my their address again and found NONE. A big fat zero. I encourage you to post it to me here in a message or a comment. I will read both. In Sri Lanka again. We have been on the go quite a lot and took 3 days in a Buddhist Meditatin Centre living in almost total silence (except for 30 mins per day) Meditating for several hours a day. My knees are sore. Gotta go...lunch at the restaurant next door is ready. Love, Dave... read more

Hello! Well a lot has happened in the last couple of weeks! Alice the last remaining original volunteer in Negombo with me went home which was very sad! But she was replaced with a new girl called Frances who is from Leister (and keeps on telling me how pround she is of it!) I'm sure she is lovely i just have to stop myself from getting so annoyed with her patronising me all time. i wish alice was still here!!! But anyway I have made a great new friend called Rosanne (from Amsterdam) who is lovely and we have decided to go to India together for 2 weeks starting the last week of October (hopefully!) we are going to get tickets and visas next weekend. I can't believe how fast Sri Lanka is going most of ... read more
